The Guardians of the galaxy are the avengers of space. The green lanterns are the ones who keep the universe from losing its mind. Yes, i know its a joke but still man, corps pride and all that.
It seems like a fair analogy to me. Green Lantern is stale, too. Good thing they are changing writers - that title needs a new direction and Venditti is a capable scribe who handles both space-faring superheroes and crime procedurals well.
There comes a point where a writer can overstay his run on a title. Claremont did it on X-Men. Ditko managed to avoid it on Spiderman. Geoff Johns is right on the edge with GL. The Sinestro Corps War and War of Light were brilliant and engaging but that was what, 5 years ago? I have no doubt that the Green Lantern movie would not have been made were it not for Geoff Johns revitalizing the title but it is his time to move on. His Aquaman run thus far is more interesting than any run of that title other than Peter David's.
