Regarding MARVEL's announcement that THOR will be a female from now on...

  1. Yeah, gender swapping a character to shift readership is a horrible idea. They tried to rationalize it with (paraphrased) "Look at all the other terrible decisions we've made about Thor. If those happened, we sure can make this terrible decision."

  2. Thor has gone through a lot of appearance and character changes throughout history. From being turned into a frog to mjolnir being taken by an alien.
Him being a woman now shouldn't shock anybody.

  3. Actually it's not Thor being gender swapped, but a totally different person who is worthy of the hammer.

    1. If they insist things like "It's not girl-thor, it's just Thor." Then it is a gender swap.

    2. Anon, no it's not a gender swap. Read the interview with Jason Aaron. Thor Odinson will still be in the book, but with his axe Jarnbjorn. Mjolnir is truly going to be weilded by a woman who is not Thor turned into one. This all comes out of Original Sin, where Thor is going to be deemed unworthy of the hammer.

  4. So they change Thor into a legacy character?

  5. it's not the hero that Marvel wants but it's the hero that Marvel needs.

  6. I'd be in support of this more if Marvel brought a woman in to write this story. Mainstream comics don't need more "Shock and Awe" storylines that will make as much of a difference as an electric blue Superman. They need fresh eyes, new ideas, and an actual feeling that things matter. They need new blood

  7. Place yer bets: how long until both this and Falcon as the new Captain America are quietly retconned out of existence?

    2. Before or after Middle Eastern Ms Marvel is cancelled?

  8. Is she complaining about a new stereotypical comic book female character being added instead of a new stereotypical male comic book character ?

  9. But.. unless there was a reboot I missed, Thor Girl is already a canon character that's existed for a while, not to mention Earth X (female) Thor. This is like announcing that Superman is getting a dog or that Spiderman is changing his costume. When doesn't a female Thor exist?

    1. There was also a What If where Rogue got stuck with Thor's powers.

  10. What I find disappointing about this is the change in artist that was what attracted me to Thor in the first place!
