  2. Well, I actually *have* been to San Diego Comic Con...and frankly, it is, in fact way too commercial. Just sayin'.

  3. Comic Con needs to break off the Hollywood nonsense into a new con called Pop-CultureCon or TVcon or whatever. There is stuff there that has nothing to do with comics and it takes up valuable real estate on the show floor. A couple years back there was a huge booth for PanAm, a tv show about stewardesses on the airline who were spies or something. It lasted what 6 episodes? That doesn't belong at COMIC con. And, it's not like they'd lose money, because tools like me would go to BOTH cons! Get on the ball SDCC, this should be geek prom not a Hunger Games style hunt for hotels.

I've never been to Comic-Con, but I agree. You say Hollywood, and everyone swoons, though not a single movie adaptation has been as good as the original comic book. I keep telling my kid not to judge Spider-Man by the movie, but he won't listen.

    2. Since when is something at comic-con supposed to only have a connection to comics? What did Frank Capra have to do with comics? Or Chuck Norris or Walter Koenig? These were guests at the first two comic-con's. People who attended the first comic-con's know that it was always about comics and movies and literature.

So Hunger Games/Twilight/and any movie/tv show actually belong there.

    3. Clearly you do not remember Walter Koenig's Raver that was published by Malibu comics. I remember reading a few years ago that it was supposed to be revived but like many advertised revivals, this one never materialised.

    4. Well Comic Con isn't about to break off and become less profitable. So while it is silly the mega-event has "Comic" in its name, the other con run by the same organisation is called Wonder Con. Happens in March.

Or, you know, you could go to most other comic conventions.

    5. I don't think Koenig had his book out at the time of the first Comic-Con. And that still leaves Norris and Capra. And now I'm thinking about a line of comics like the Ray Harryhausen ones -- Frank Capra Presents: Mr. Smith in Washington! It's An Ongoing Life!

  5. Too commercial?

It's a 'con FFS. The whole point is to sell stuff to the punters.

Just be thankful SDCC isn't funding a paedophile's legal defense fund…

  7. Please, naysayers stay home. I'd welcome a more manageable crowd.
