I'm a pretty big Star Trek fan, but even I'm not deluded enough to ignore the fact that all of the Next Gen Trek movies had serious problems, the primary one being that the way the characters behave in the movies contradicts character traits long established in the TV show.
Contradictions aside, watching Picard go nuts with a Tommy gun on the holodeck is good for a giggle.
Don't you just love it when they take an old TV show, strip it of everything that made it unique or interesting, throw in some macho dialogue and explosions and a young cast, then pass if off as better than the original? What's next? Columbo's Revenge starring Ryan Reynolds?
I don't agree with that either. There have been some lousy Star Trek movies, but there have been some good ones. Still, it's Mr. Tim's ball and his yard, so...
I believe you mean "Star Trek Into Darkness" not "STAR TREK: Into Darkness."
I have a friend who works for the LATimes, and she confirmed to me that all official correspondence she's received from the studio did not have a colon.
I'm not even a Star Trek fan and even I have to point to Wrath of Khan as the best Star Trek film (even over the new one, which was okay [better than the two NG films I saw]). Abrams needs to quit trying to give up on the shaky-cam stuff and pointless lens flares. They're distracting.
"If I wanted to watch young, attractive people doing interesting things, I would watch sports."
I agree with pretty much the whole dialogue expressed by the Star Trek fans in that video even though I know the video is making fun of me for doing so. It was as biting as it was insightful.
Are we saying that First Contact was bad?

DeleteNo but seriously I will give anyone $50 who can sit through the entirety of the first Star Trek movie which was 70% shots of the ship.
ReplyDeleteDo you want my address now?
DeleteDEAL! I could use 50 bucks!
DeleteYou got a deal, buddy.
DeleteI can sit through it, but I can't guarantee I'll be awake. Easiest 50 I've ever made.
DeleteAnyone who says something like this didn't live through the dark years after the TV show went off the air and no revival was in sight.
ReplyDeleteI believe you mean "Star Trek Into Darkness" not "STAR TREK: Into Darkness."

It’s not true.
ReplyDeleteThis dude needs to get off my lawn.

ReplyDeleteWasn't there an Onion article or video just about that, when the first star trek reboot came out ?

Now Mr. Tim is just trolling. Unless he's honestly never seen Star Treks 2, 4, and 6.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Mr Tim is a fan of the original Star Trek..
ReplyDeleteReally now, someone who doesn't like Star Trek has no business saying what Star Trek should be in order to be good.
