When I told him that I did not want to buy his dog eared copy of THE RETURN OF BRUCE WAYNE #3, a comic that he claimed was "wicked valuable"...

  1. Do people still go into comic shops trying to sell Spawn #1? Before my friend had to shut down his shop he'd get about one a week.

  2. So by his logic, anything that's in a plastic bag is valuable?

  3. By that logic the bag full of dog crap the guy at the park here has is priceless.

  4. Not just valuable, "wicked" valuable. That must be a secret in the CGC.

  5. I have Green #1 in a plastic bag, wicked valuable. Did I leave out the 'Lantern'...? Well, maybe I was talking about a different green in a bag.

I think this guy might have had some of his own valuable bag contents.

  6. The old cheese I threw out earlier.
    Noooo!! It was wicked valuable.

  8. Y'know. At one point in my life, I thought about opening up my own comic book store. Now, after reading this site, not so much.

  9. @KEVIN 0

yes and even more so they try to sell the death of Superman, and here recently the death of Johnny Storm. *sigh*

  10. The bag itself is probably worth more than the comic.

  11. But man, it's WICKED VALUABLE!

  12. I had a guy come into the store I worked at with a long box of Youngblood #1s and X-Force #1s(Liefield era). He actually asked for $2000.00 for the box. I said $20. He got so flustered I wouldn't give him what he valued the comics at that he tossed them in the dumpster in the parking lot as he left.

  13. @Anon3:32 After you fished the comics out of the dumpster, how much did you sell them for?

  14. Wait, the box was just the #1's of those two series? Not even an attempt at a series run?

Hell, I would have been too busy laughing my ass off at him to make even that offer.

  15. Ah, the power of plastic. How well I know it.

  16. The key to wealth is to turn one plastic bag inside out and put it into a second plastic bag so that each is inside the other like a Mobius Strip. Since the bag in the bag is in a bag on to infinity you can name your price.

  17. Somewhat ironically, I just bought 5 Spawn #1s from a guy for my Store yesterday. We still sell a couple a year and it's been a long time since I've had them in stock. I haven't had a bagged Superman #75 in the Store in years.

  18. at the store I used to work, last year this guy came in with a HUGE box of 90s comics, spawn, x-men and x-related, lots of images, etc. He was expecting to sell them to us but we told him we had boxes and boxes of the same stuff unsold in the back. I said "geez, you're like 15 years too late.

  19. I sold a spawn #1 yesterday for $10, we always try to keep a few in stock.

But if I hear one more customer say "It's still in the plastic" I might bag their head, price it and label it, -used once.

Do people not realize that we the stores, bag the comics! Arg! One of my biggest annoyances!!

  20. @ anon with Green#1: Read your comment 20 minutes ago and am still chuckling, thanks for a good start to my day!

  21. And here I thought comic fans learned their lesson back in the '90s.

  22. Comic fans did learn their lesson back in the '90s. The speculator asshats, on the other hand, are doing everything they can think of to break the industry again. And this time, they have the benefit of eBay for selling their Butcher Baker #1's for 30 bucks each.

I honestly believe that 90% of the speculator market on eBay is one speculator selling to another speculator, who thinks he can then turn around and sell the book again for even more money.

  23. If that's how it works, then it looks like I've got to get some plastic bags now.

  24. Jesus these guys come in to my store everyday.
