Answering his friend's question regarding his Big Bang Theory t-shirt...

Aaaaaaand he was serious.

  1. I do not think that word means what he thinks it means.

  4. My dad religiously watches that show. I'm not saying it's a bad show, but his other favorite show is 2½ Men.

  5. Well, TWO AND A HALF MEN and THE BIG BANG THEORY are made by the same people (Chuck Lorre &c.), so it is only to be expected that a person who likes one will like the other.

  6. i'm betting he's also into that realy obscure indie space trilogy directed by george something or other...

  9. Does he like the really unknown cult TV series
    Doctor Who, or Red Dwarf?

  10. I beg to disagree about the comment about people who like The Big Bang Theory also like Two And A Half Men. That just isn't entirely true.

I love Big Bang but hate the other.

  11. Big Bang Theory is a show about nerds by people who aren't smart enough to be nerds

  12. Two and a Half Men is the bane of my existence.

  13. Those shows fill the important position of "brain melting show" 1 and 2

  14. After the guy said that, did the studio audience laugh at the comment for a good minute?

Bah. When my mom watches a show on CBS... IT'S NOT INDIE! Hell, I had to stop short of rolling my eyes when an older cousin of mine was telling me how she watches Bing Bang Theory with her kids and they all love it. Though I can honestly take it or leave it.

  15. It's interesting, the reactions some nerds and geeks have to Big Bang Theory. Some seem to like it simply because it's a mainstream show where nerds make math and comic book jokes, others actually compare it to a minstrel show, except with nerds instead of guys in blackface.
Me, I don't care for it either, it's like a hackneyed, formulaic 80's sitcom overstuffed with 90's style sitcom "snark" and puffed up with post-2000 referential humor. Too many exchanges that go like
NERD 1: Did you watch Sci-fi Movie Sequel last night?
NERD 2: No I did not. It certainly wasn't as good as Some Other Sci-Fi Movie
(Studio audience explodes with out of control laughter)
BLONDE WOMAN: I am a female person who has not heard of said movies.
(Studio audience explodes into even greater laughter, to the point of having respiratory problems)

  16. Sooo... This whole thing is funny because the guy is a ridiculous snob, and you beat that by being even bigger ridiculous snobs...

    That's hilarious.

  17. Big Bang Theory and 2 and a half are both painfully unfunny. People, there's no need for these shows when Community and Always Sunny in Philly exist

  18. I love how people loathe the show because 'nerds aren't like that.'

Hate to burst bubbles, but here are some others:

Most workplaces aren't like The Office.

    Most relationships aren't like Friends.

Most CIA spies aren't like Chuck.

Just repeat to yourself that 'Most SUBJECTS aren't like SHOW THAT PARODIES SUBJECTS' and you'll feel more relaxed.

  19. >indie
    >Big Bang Theory
    Pick one.

  20. What's the big deal? CBS is TOTALLY the most indie network ever...

  21. I think the fact that it's on TV, period, negates any sort of Indieness.

The closest thing I can think of, from an American perspective anyway, is if it's a British or Canadian or wherever import show that has lower ratings. And even that's a sketchy definition.

  22. Anything my parents watch on a primetime tv network, probably shouldn't be considered "indie."

I went to being completely indifferent to Big Bang Theory to actively hating it after people kept saying to me something along the lines of: "I figured you'd be into it because it's your type of thing."

  24. I am afraid he is not just an idiot, but someone a hipster who doesn't know what he's talking about.

  25. It's the highest rated sitcom on tv averaging 15 million viewers. That's all that needs to be said.
