While discussing movies...

  1. And if you like DU, you are also a racist-because it's a white assistance fantasy in which blacks cannot take charge of their own lives on their own initiative, but require white aid and direction. The white director is co-opting black rage for his own jollies.

So either way, bottom line: you're a racist.

    1. "White assistance fantasy", do people really say things like this?

    3. LESSONS ON RACE FROM MOVIES:
      Crash - People are racist!
Gran Torino - Racists are people!

"'White assistance fantasy', do people really say things like this?"
I do recall a big hoopla over liberal critics deriding Avatar as a "white guilt fantasy."
See also: Dances With Wolves, The Last Samurai...

    4. It's called "White Man's Burden"

    5. Not really. Django is Django's story, not Schultz's story. Django is the lead character. He's the one who goes through the heroic journey.

In plot analytical terms, Schultz is the reverse of the magical negro trope. He plays the part of Morpheus, not Neo; Merlin, not Arthur.

      Tarantino knows what he's doing.

    6. Also, if you do like it, you're only a partial racist. Only total racists don't like it.

    7. "White Man's Burden" is something completely different. It's about tye "duty" of white ken to colonize and civilize the rest of world. And that is racist.

    8. My first world Caucasian troubles. :(

    9. @Anonymous above - using the word 'Caucasian' for Western white people is itself an example of offensive first-world stupidity. Caucasians are people from the Caucasus, and are actually subject to considerable racism in places like Russia. Not that the average white American would know anything about that.

    1. That makes you the Grand Wizard of the KKK plus Jefferson Davis times a million.

    2. Jefferson Davis treated blacks with kindness and respect. He paid the ones working on his farm and let them run it. When the Union army came through burning everything on its way to the Atlantic, the ones working Davis's farm refused to leave. They stayed on after the end of slavery too.

  3. To be fair, it's hard to make any sort of commentary about the film, like or dislike, without feeling at least sorta racist.

  4. But wait. I didn't like it (or any other Tarantino film except Pulp Fiction). But I'm black, and it's also basically a fact that only white people can be racist.

    OH NOES PARADOX!

  6. I don't know where I fall on the racism scale. I just enjoy seeing dudes get shot in an increasingly dramatic and silly fashion.

  10. Seems you can't win. The TV Tropes are:
    - If a black person helps a white person straighten out their messed up life, they're a "Magic Negro". (Except it's not "Negro.) See BAGGER VANCE, CORRINA CORRINA and THE GREEN MILE.
    - If a white person helps people of color people resist oppression, they're "Mighty Whitey". See TARZAN, AVATAR, DANCES WITH WOLVES.

    1. Ironically, the people who see racists everywhere are almost always racists themselves.

    2. I think the point of those tropes is that either way, a white person is at the centre of the story and the black characters are only there to make them feel better or give them a chance to show how noble they are.

By having a black main character, Django doesn't fall into either trope.

  13. If you didn't like Django Unchained, it's not because you're a racist, it's because you have crappy taste in movies.

  14. It's like, basically a FACT that if neckbeards like yourself were able to breed like normal humans, mankind would've like, died from mass stupidity ages ago.
