While discussing superhero movies...

  1. Absolutely true. If you don't see it, you're not part of the solution.

    1. The solution to what problem, DCtard?

    2. Because anyone who questions anything Marvel does must necessarily belong to the other tribe.

C'mon son, it's possible to hate em both.

  2. Not entirely true, not entirely false.

  3. I honestly don't understand this. Can someone explain what about watching a two-hour movie makes you feel this way? Is it because of the stingers? Isn't each movie a complete story in itself?

I can't think of a Marvel movie that ends as a cliffhanger...

    1. the stingers, the crossovers, the references to other MCU movies, the whole concept of a continuity across the entire brand. which of course is a practice they lifted directly from the comics.

when i realized that "you can't enjoy this comic unless you read all these other comics" wasn't my cup of tea, i dumped most of my superhero comics (except some of the relatively self-contained titles by creators that i liked) and started giving more of my attention to alt/indie stuff.

the premise of "the avengers" movie and its sequel is pretty much that. if you don't know who all of the heroes are beforehand, you're not going to get much out of it besides a lot of punching, yelling and explosions for who-knows-what reasons & motivations. granted, i did know all the characters and had seen the movies leading up to "the avengers," but the studio's assumption that the audience WILL watch each & every MCU movie is kinda irritating nevertheless.

if there does come a time when i haven't watched enough MCU to completely follow the plot & motives of the latest MCU movie, i'm pretty comfortable with ignoring the entire brand instead of trying to play catch-up out of a sense of compulsive obligation.

  4. I can understand that argument for something like Iron Man 2, which does plug The Avengers a lot, it seems. However, look at Captain America: The Winter Soldier, for example. Yes, it played off things that happened before, and the last few minutes plugged the further adventures of Cap and the crew, it was 2+ hours of a great movie that was a damn good time on its own.
