In response to his friend's complaints about the casting of a comedy movie...

  1. Same thing about the Robocop remake. Sure the remake was terribad, but that doesn't lessen the greatness that is the original Robocop. We just need to find the people that saw the remake and force them to watch the original, just to show them that Robocop does not suck.

    1. This is hilarious! I love this.

    2. The best part is this phrase can be used for anyone who complains about a new/updated geek-thing.

  3. Not like any criticisms will be heard anyhow.

  4. Or maybe they should be mad because they'd be hauling up the long-dead corpse of a cherished franchise just for an exercise in tokenism.

I'm curious as to why it's mentioned as a 'comedy' movie in the entry title. Does that make a difference?

    1. Ok jackass, I'll take the bait: what do you mean by "tokenism"?

Do you mean the fact that the main cast consists of 3 white people and 1 black person...like in the original movies?

Or maybe the fact they have an overweight person in the group...like Dan Akroyd in the original movies?

Or that they have the obviously sarcastic/dry witty one...like in the original movies?

Or maybe it's the fairly obvious reason that 4 comediennes will be leading the charge? And if that is the case you can go to Hell and sit on a red hot coal, thank you very much.

And maybe the mentioned it being a comedy because *LE GASP* the original movies were comedies too?!

    2. I actually like the idea of an all women cast. Hell, I love the idea of an all NEW cast, to see where it goes.

Personally, I'm just afraid it will be a completely different style of comedy. I realize how that sounds, but what annoys me about most modern comedies is that they refuse to be subtle. Gotta have them fart/poop jokes! (Bridesmaids) That's not to say that Ghostbusters was 100% subtlety, but by comparison to most modern comedies... it sure was.

And no, doing something different with the series isn't a terrible idea, but turning something classic and well put together into something that's just "another modern comedy" is NOT doing something different. Much like most remakes, it'll just come off as stale and cheap, and quick payout for Hollywood. (Robocop, Total Recall, etc)

I'll know when I go see it, I guess.

  5. I think the main problem is that the cast sucks. I mean....I hate the idea of Ghostbusters that aren't the real Ghostbusters. So the moment it was announced it would be a new cast...that sucked. The fact that they're all female, well...all it really does is that I have to be more carefull/afraid in voicing my dislike because I'll be accused of sexism. It's like in Fantastic Four - i don't just dislike the cast for Human Torch. He's probably the best fit. I don't like ANYONE in that cast for their role. That's neckbeardy and whiny, not racist. Anyway, back to Ghostbusters....now, even if it HAS to be a new cast of all female Ghostbusters...couldn't we at least have gotten one of the countless infinitely more funny women around? Just a single one? Tiny Fey? Kristen Schaal? Aisha Tyler? Anyone who is more entertaining than what we got? I don't expect someone on the level of Murray, Ramis and Akroyd back then....just someone who has more to offer than freaking Bridesmaids.

    1. Uhm... I like the idea of Kirsten Schaal as a Ghost Buster... the role fits her.

    2. I agree. The fact that it's all women isn't the problem. It's that it's not a good cast. I love Kate McKinnon, so I'm glad to see her get a big role. I'm maybe 50/50 on Kristen Wiig. The other two just suck, and that doesn't even take into account that there isn't a writer or director on board that is more in line with the comedic sensibilities of the original.

But yeah, Amy Poehler, Amy Adams, Emma Stone, Aubrey Plaza, Retta, Rashida Jones, Jenna Fischer, Kaitlin Olsen... I'd take any of them in this movie.

    3. Emma Stone isn't a comedian.

    4. My dream cast was Amy Poehler, Aubrey Plaza, Chelsea Peretti, Aisha Tyler.

with Kristen Schaal as the Rick Moranis analogue, and Chris Pratt in the Sigourney Weaver part.

Oh, and Moshe Kasher as the Annie Potts analogue.

    5. Ernie Hudson and Harold Ramis aren't/weren't comedians. Ghostbusters wasn't full-on comedy as this remake is probably going to be...

  6. Leave it to nerds, to complain about a movie having too many women. smh

    1. Could you imagine if someone made a genderswapped Lord of the Rings? There'd be like 3 men in it. And nerds would go insane. But when it's 99% men and they're all white, that's just normal, right?

  7. DUDE ALL NERDS ARE EVIL LMAO

  8. In my experience, things like these are never as simple as "nerds are racists/misogynists". Most of the time the reason for complaints are more complex (not to say they're always valid, though). Like here, most of the complaints I've seen are either from people who are worried because they don't think the actors in question are particularly funny enough to make a good Ghostbusters movie (valid), or people who just consider Ghostbusters a sacred cow that shouldn't be tampered with in any way (not quite valid). Dismissing it as something like "manbaby nerds being misogynist" is just condescending ignorance.

  9. This movie will probably suck because most remakes suck, but at least with this one SocJus gets to accuse its detractors of misogyny as an excuse for it tanking.

  10. TBH I'm more excited about this Ghostbusters than when they were talking about doing one with the original cast (before Harold Ramis died, rest his soul). If the Ghostbusters Video Game taught us anything, it's that when we get the original cast together, we get diminishing returns on comedy. It's still good, because of the starting level of talent, but a full length movie that's on par with the Ghostbusters Video Game would be tedious.

A new cast with a new director could be good, could be great. Or the thing could be awful, too. But the idea excites me more than seeing Bill Murray and the rest doing the exact same thing for the fourth time.

  11. Oh, how prophetic this person turned out to be. Most disliked movie trailers on youtube, and rightfully so.
