If you replace "mainstream" with "network" and "independent" with something like "watchable" or "quality," this becomes an utterly true statement. Thus I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for being someone who just doesn't know the right terms for what he wants to say.
This reminds me of the kids who told me they listened to "underground punk" because they had bought re-printings of some old records. At Hot Topic. And they still had the shrink wrap on them. And neither of these people owned record players.
I have an uncle who is one of those aging hippie types who complains about everything being manufactured and whatnot, and once his sister made him a mixed CD and one of the songs was Let Me Rest In Peace by Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and he really liked it and we all just refused to tell him that it came from a musical episode of a popular TV show for teenagers because it would have ruined it for him.
I find it funny that he has a Nine Inch Nails shirt because of the people who tried to convince me it was an underground band that not many people knew about.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
ReplyDeleteYou probably never heard of them.

ReplyDeleteI don't complain about EVERYTHING.

To be fair, James Marsters sings in a genuine band, too.
DeleteHe probably thinks these are bittorrent productions.

ReplyDeleteWhy isn't there a "hipster" tag yet?
Because hipster has been a meaningless catch-all descriptor since at least 2008
Deleteis there anything MORE MAINSTREAM than Game of Thrones? seriously, my sister doesn't even watch it, or have HBO, and she knows way too much about it
