The mixed emotions surrounding one's hobby being absorbed into popular culture...

  1. First sentence doesn't read very well. Comic book movies maybe? Or was he referring to comic books themselves becoming more popular?

    1. Dunno but "comics" seems to refer to "comics".

  2. Lol sounds ok except obviously unfair comparison, as comics don't get crowded. You don't have a harder time getting your comic book neither have to share the experience with anybody...

  3. Maybe it’s more like the volume level at the bar. When the bar gets popular it gets loud. When comics get popular it’s like the cultural volume level goes up. It’s harder for us to be heard over all the new people.

  4. And then they start changing the bar to appeal to all the new customers, like selling coffee and muffins and drop your favorite beer. And then they redecorate and rip out your favorite table. And they get rid of the pool table and pinball machine. And pretty soon they're making a lot more money, but it isn't your favorite bar any more.

  5. This easily translates to "I liked it better when only a few of us liked it which in turn translates to "It's become too mainstream."
He must have left his hipster glasses at home.

  6. I definitely understand this feeling, though I don't fully agree with it. There is always the feeling that "they just don't GET it like I do!" but whether that's accurate is, well, hard to say.
