  1. Carlos Mencia as Reed Richards, Paris Hilton as Sue Storm, Andy Dick as Ben Grimm, and Nicholas Cage as Johnny Storm.

Boom. I have just won all the Academy Awards.

  3. I've always like the FF. I enjoyed the last two movies even though a lot of people like the bag on them. The new cast seems way too young to me.

  4. too soon to praise or bash Robinson, And FFF was a nice hook. Haven't seen him since Nextwave

  5. worst aspect of the FF casting complaints is that certain forums are so flooded with "no racist but black human torch is the multicultural affirmative action antichrist imo" topics that it leaves me with a pretty sour impression of contemporary society, "nerd culture," and whatnot. stan lee must be rolling in his grave, to see how intolerant some of his characters' fans are.

    1. I'm really getting tired of people saying I'm intolerant for not liking an adaptation that looks nothink like what's it's adapting. Fuck off.

    2. if you see absolutely no similarity between a white american man and a black american man, you can fuck off times infinity forever and ever.

    3. Stan Lee's still alive. Or are you making a joke about him resembling the undead?

    4. People like to see a main character adaptation look like the original main character. A black human torch is as much of a contrast as if the FF costumes were suddenly red instead of blue. AND there is the problem of the character's family having to also change accordingly, unless they're suddenly not family anymore, which then becomes a story contrast.
Besides, this whole "token minority guy" thing is nothing short of an hypocritical attempt to placate the anti-racist crowd. If they wanted to be nice, they only had to make Green Lantern about John Stewart (would probably have been a better movie then, too). >.>

    5. Precisely, this is why the Marvel Cinematic Universe experiment has been such a failure. I mean RDJ, while a great actor looks nothing like Tony Stark of the comics, Clint Barton, Bruce Banner, and Steve Rogers are all way off too. The only characters who are at all accurate to their comic images are Thor and Nick Fury which is why they've really had to carry the whole series of films.

    6. "this is why the Marvel Cinematic Universe experiment has been such a failure"

A failure apart from the huge piles of money the studios keep tripping over, you mean.

And all the people who love watching them.

So, apart from the huge piles of cash and the popular acclaim, they're complete failures.

    7. I wonder where all the people who are complaining about casting a black actor as the Human Torch were when they changed the races/ethnicities of Bane, Ra's al Ghul, Talia al Ghul, characters in the Prince of Persia movie, the main character in 30 Days of Night, Khan Noonien Singh, etc.? That's not even getting into movies that changed the races/ethnicities of real people.

    8. Right now, I'm just really confused by the guy saying Nick Fury looked like the comic character. Nick Fury... white guy... stubble... graying hair... cigar. Sam Jackson?

    9. Anon 1:59: I guess that other anon's stupid argument is valid because he was black in the Ultimate Universe? I wonder if people complained about that back then... And also, that same anon also argued that acting ability should be put aside for "looks like the character".

Honestly, people who are using the whole "this completely changes the FF's background" ignore the fact that the movie will probably glance over an "adopted" or "half-brother" line and everyone will go on their merry way. Yeah, he doesn't look like comic-book Johnny but what does that matter if he turns out to be a millions better at playing the character? After you've seen the movie, feel free to make arguments that he doesn't play the character well, but until then, stop embarrassing yourself.

    10. I was referring to the Ultimate Nick Fury who was actually modeled after Samuel L. Jackson, I would also like to point out that I was being ironic with that post. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been incredibly successful and was simply trying to illustrate that the complaints about appearance are invalid. The only criteria being looked at is skin color otherwise there would have been an uproar concerning those other characters.

    11. @Anon 10:35: Even though it's not a comic book, the one and only case of whitewashing I do remember a few people bringing up was The Last Airbender... And those few people were almost completely drowned out by swaths of idiots calling them "Anti-white racists." Yeah, I'm guessing that the current complainants are the same people as the latter group, not the former.

    13. Stan Lee is not dead that I know of. But YES, I am intolerant of someone messing with the race of my favorite character, who I have "known" for 42 years of my life. Comic books are visual. I know what Johnny Storm looks like. He isn't black, brown, blue, yellow or red. It would be different if it was a character from a book. I will not see the movie, and I hope the movie flops and the director and actor never find work in Hollywood ever again.

    14. I can fix this: since apparently we can't have two black main characters in one super hero movie, Johnny and Sue should be white. Reed should be black. There. All better.

  6. The only issue I can see with the casting is that, if Johnny is black, Sue should probably be black, too. But then, I don't really care about FF, so I'm not exactly losing sleep over it.

    1. Or, if they REALLY had to have a black character (like, it was executive-mandated or something), make it Reed Richards. That way we have a black man as the Marvel Universe's smartest man, AND we have an inter-racial relationship with him and Sue. Bam, two progressive birds with one stone.

    2. Now THAT might have actually made the story interesting.
But really, FFF? Maybe they are trying to jump on the Godzilla bandwagon?

  7. You just don't understand! First they made Dracula black, then the Kingpin, and then that guy from Thor when we KNOW everyone in Asgard is white, and now Johnny Storm? What's next? A Jewish Ben Grimm? If we don't stop the Negroidal Comic Character Invasion, the next thing you know we'll have a black Iron Man, a black Green Lantern, a black Ms. Marvel (whoops! later, boner), a black Canary, a black Captain America, maybe even a black Panther! Then they'll tell us Jesus wasn't a white Anglo-Saxon Protestant!

You can make an orange guy with a horse skull for a head Thor, you can make a frog Thor, but you cannot make a black Thor! It's just WRONG!!

    2. I think people's problem with it is that it's change for no damn reason (which may be a good thing depending on the actor, Michael Clarke Duncan as the Kingpin was the best thing about the Daredevil movie and Idris Elba was a decent Heimdall) but in this specific instance it's that you have to bring in some bullshit into the established story just to fit this guy in. That make it seem much more like the studio was going for the 'see, we cast black people too' route than him being the best actor for the job like some of the others.

I honestly don't give a flying fuck about FF, however, I am much more concerned about them fucking up Dr Doom in this movie again.

    3. And what's really nuts is, if they are messing with the character to attract black people, most of the black people I know don't go to the movies anyway. They pirate them. I've never figured out how they have the movies on DVD as soon as they hit the theater.

  8. my only issue with the whole thing is that the Fantastic Four film I want to see is Jack Kirby's Fantastic Four, and that's not going to happen. I'll see the new one when it comes out, I'll probably moan a bit about it for a couple of days, and then I'll forget all about it. or ( & here's a thing ) it MIGHT be good. who knows? it's not out yet. either way, it won't be a literal translation of Jack Kirby's Fantastic Four, so it won't be the film I want to see.

& to the anonymous comment way back up there that suggested the Marvel films were a failure, I would respectfully disagree. Robert Downey Jr was an inspired bit of casting. the only two that I thought were lacking in any way were Captain America & Iron Man 3, but I still enjoyed both of them immensely, and the Guardians of the Galaxy looks like it's gonna be a hoot.

  9. The curious mystery of comic book fans: Radioactive spiders, aliens, demons, head transplants, magical cosmic rays, psychic powers? Nothing unusual there. The Human Torch played by a black guy or Wonder Woman played by a flat-chested former IDF soldier? TOTALLY UNREALISTIC.

Spoiler alert: If these movies suck (and hey, there's a very good chance they will), it won't be because of HT's skin colour or WW's bra size.
