While discussing nerd credibility...

  1. But if we don't try to one-up everyone else, how do we know our lives matter?!

  2. So what *does* prove you're a nerd?

    2. If you've seen a couple of seasons of Dr. Who maybe?

    3. Only if they were a couple of seasons of the OLD series, before it was cool.

And even then, it doesn't count if you're British.

  3. Kind of true, I suppose. I mean, I LIKE Star Wars but I certainly don't love it.

  4. If for some reason one has to use Star Wars to identify a nerd, hating the prequels is probably more of a defining characteristic. I'm sure there are non-nerds who dislike the prequels, but I've only ever had hour-long conversations about the horror that is the Phantom Menace with fellow geeks (it's an oddly efficient conversation starter).

    1. There's a much better test for identifying true nerds:

      Did Han shoot first?

    2. Of course he did. Duh.

Wait - does that make me a nerd or not?

    3. "Did Han shoot first?"

that's a trick question that implies somebody shot second. greedo didn't shoot at all.

    1. Mine's Gandalf. I really liked it when he and Spock fought Voldemort.

  6. Well, I don't really like Star Wars (I know, I know, it's supposed to be great, I find it boring.), so does that mean I don't live on Earth? Am I really just visiting?

    1. Nah, you're in good company. Here's a dark secret: even most Star Wars fans don't really like Star Wars.

    2. as a star wars fan, this is how i prove my love for star wars: whenever i view the theatrical cut of the film, i do not feel any desire to add a bunch of newfangled retcon bullshit or hamfisted visual "improvements" to it. i accept it for what it was and still is: a product of its time, for its time. i reckon that means i like star wars more than its creator does.
