Angrily to his friend...

  1. I hope no one told him about the Disney deal.

I hope we can at least agree that clone troopers look cool.

  2. I think the prequels/&c. are stupid. You still lose some cred by labeling a comment about what's "true" Star Wars/canon/whatever with "it's true".

    1. Some cred, or every bit of it? If you praise Lucas for envisioning Star Wars, you can't pretend the prequels are fan fiction, especially when Lucas had even more responsibility for the prequels.

    2. Yeah, but without Gary Kurtz to reign him in, the new movies lacked a TON of heart. That guy gave us the Force, Yoda, and tons of other things that make Star Wars so great.

    3. Yes, Lucas doesn't work well with emotion, or emotional writing. The prequels are very "asexual" At least there were actors who could perform well enough, despite the script.

    4. The prequels had more heart than the other trilogy! Lucas and Christansen do an amazing job of making Anakin sympathetic while at the same time shockingly evil. The prequels help you understand the characters' places and feel their pain, and are generally more emotional than the movies centered on Luke. Plus "Attack of the Clones" is one of the few cases where a romantic movie plot actually moved me and didn't just seem like people going through the motions.

    5. ^Lolwut? That 'Lee S.' has gotta be either (i) a troll, (ii) George Lucas, or (iii) a robot pretending to be human and doing a bad job of it.

    6. I'm not trolling! I'm expressing how immensely enjoyable the "Star Wars" movies are for me.

    7. Lee, now that I've read your previous comment, you must be KIDDING me! Maybe you're not trolling, but the prequels had some stale dialogue, and I think that Hayden Christensen was made to look worse by the direction he was given; he's not a strong actor. The veteran actors in the prequels handled their own. They knew how to work it.

I don't hate the prequels, BTW. Just in comparison to the originals, they don't have the same heart.

    8. Seriously what?

The first trilogy was all: "Use the force. Trust your feelings… Let go…"

The prequels turned the force into an STD. And you think that has MORE "heart"?

    9. "Plus "Attack of the Clones" is one of the few cases where a romantic movie plot actually moved me and didn't just seem like people going through the motions."

....huh. I'll be damned, there really is one in every crowd.

    10. I think STD is way too harsh (especially a young child is the one who gets his midiclorian count done), but it took the spiritual aspect out of The Force. Totally removed any mystery from it.

  3. Personally I really liked the Clone Troopers. While I am still not happy with how Episode I turned out, II and III were pretty good. Really fond of the Clone Wars series as well.

  5. Just like J.J. Abrams Star Trek is NOT Star Trek. That pisses me off more than the Star Wars prequels. J.J. Abrams IMHO is like the WORST PERSON EVER for HIS version of Star Trek. Wrong thread to bring this up in, but there are worse things than Jar Jar Binks. Yeah I said it.

    1. False. Nothing is worse than Jar Jar Binks. He's history's greatest monster.

    2. You're in a serious minority critically and with filmgoers over that one. I loved the first Trek movie, and I'll be seeing the next one. I get it "raped your childhood" and whatnot, but I never take any of that so serious.

Anyway, the prequels are real Star Wars, because Lucas was involved. He's the person you went to the dance with, and he turned MILLIONS of us into geeks.

    3. I know, it's like I can't even a good lethargic fight scene between Kirk and a rubber lizard suit, anymore.

Or a good floating transparent sparkly blob in space. I mean, what is Hollywood even doing nowadays.

    4. Heh.

Look, you can just not like a movie, but in the legion of horrifically heartless adaptations of older films, video games, books, comics, etc, Star Trek is not even in the same neighborhood as a bad adaptation. I think that even if you hate it, it's better than where Trek was before the film was being produced. The series was face down in the gutter.

    5. For what little it's worth, I'm old enough to remember the first episode of Star Trek back in 1966. Yes, the movie changed the continuity significantly, and in some senses I'm not particularly happy about it. Nonetheless, it was a very good movie, and I'll definitely be seeing the next one. I'm viewing it the way Star Trek Online does: it's an alternate universe Trek, and I'm fine with that. At least Spock doesn't have a beard.

  6. It's all about the Hidden trilogy: The Holiday Special, Battle for Endor, and Caravan of Courage.

  7. I always thought the Clone Troopers were a lot cooler in theory than they ended up being in design/execution... but I guess anyone could say that about almost anything in the new trilogy.

    1. This is also basically true of Storm Troopers.

  8. um....in 1 respect this guy is technically correct --- as far as the actual history goes within the SW universe the Clone Troopers are the predecessors of the Storm Troopers....but they are both "Real" as they've been accepted into cannon by GL (in movies as well as the Many books......)
    just sayin...

    1. I don't know what you're saying. George Lucas doesn't have to "accept" them. He made them. They're in his movies, and in the cartoons. So how is this guy "technically correct"? All you said was that clone troopers came before storm troopers, which we know anyway.
