To his girlfriend...

  1. I don't know about f**cked up horror movies, but everybody I knew who was a fan of the old Universal Studios horror movies turned out to be a pretty good person.

    1. Yes. Tim Burton even made a nice short animated movie about you.

    2. ....Oh, read too fast. Thought you were the fan yourself. Now I'm all disappointed (and my nice joke falls apart).

  2. I have often had thoughts similiar to this, but not with straight up horror movies. I think kids need to watch much worse stuff than that. Stuff like The Brave Little Toaster and The Secrect of Nimh. Nightmare fuel that was MADE for kids.

  3. Okay, I admit... that really would be kind of cool.
Someone should make a really fucked up horror movie about that!

  4. Yeah... I'd stop well before "effed up stuff" but I totally let my kids watch Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, Nightmare Before Christmas, Coraline, Gremlins, Zim, Doctor Who and any other "kid friendly scary stuff" I can find...

  5. Let's see now, what's more "fucked up", so called horror movies or these children stories:
    • An old woman luring children into her home so she can eat them
    • A young girl breaking into a home to eat their food and use their beds only to be chased and (possibly) eaten by the home's rightful owners
    • A young girl taking a perilous trip to her grandmother's home only to be attacked (and possibly) eaten by her grandmother's tormentor

  6. Never take advice on raising kids from someone you wouldn't want your kids to grow up to be like.

Yeah! 'Cuz I hate it when little kids aren't 'cool' enough!

  9. Hey, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes is a classic! The sequel is just as good!

  10. I grew up on Troma movies. I'd say I'm well-adjusted (maybe a teensy weensy neurotic, but that probably would have happened anyhow). I'm engaged to be married and am quite successful in my early academic life. However, I don't think it made me any cooler.

  12. I watched a ton of horror films when I was really young (I was describing events in the F13 and Halloween movies on the playground in the third grade and I was already a well versed veteran by then!). The key difference in my case is that my parents didn't "force" me to watch them. I loved them, but my nine year old daughter doesn't. Making children watch something that they don't want to watch is cruel, pure and simple.
