While discussing TV shows...

  1. Ah, very careful to avoid any sort of polarizing tags. I like this one, haha.

  2. True. Ish. BSG is actually a show that makes dumb people feel smart. "Oh hey, a SciFi show about 9/11. I don't care if the acting is bad, the scripts are mind numbingly stupid and the whole show has the visual asthaetic of AMERICA'S FUNNIEST HOMEVIDEOS, it is dark, and brooding and did I mention that it's about 9/11? What a clever show!"

If he is of course talking about the original BSG series, well...yeah, it's true either.

  4. I'll admit, I clicked through from my RSS feed purely to see what the tags would be. Discretion is the better part of valor, eh?

  5. (SPOILER WARNINGS) This defiantly needs an "it's true" tag. Especially since Starbuck is some sort of angel, the little girl half cylon had no grand significance, and the show ended implying lots and lots of sex with cavemen

    1. Better to try something different then rinse and repeat the same formula over and over. That is why the later Star Trek shows died a slow agonizing death. People just got bored seeing the same one shot stories. BSG gets points for trying something different and inherently more difficult, and ST loses some for doing the same basic formula formula over and over. In the end it's all a wash for me.

    2. That was not supposed to be a reply.

  6. Where does Babylon 5 fit into the mix?

    1. Babylon 5 is for people who don't have anything better to do than watch tv and remember tiny details from 3 seasons ago to figure out what is going on. And people who recognize that Londo Mollari is a badass of galactic proportions.

Star Trek is for people who can take a week off and still want to be able to understand what is going on. And recognize that Elim Garak is a badass of galactic proportions.

Firefly is for people who have a hard time getting over it. It was cancelled nearly 10 years ago. And those people recognize that Jayne Cobb is a badass of barely intrasolar proportions.

  7. This must have only posted about fifteen minutes ago, because there are only nine comments so far. I'm-a put this thing on auto-repeat and make some popcorn, I smell dork blood in the water.

Nah, this is all still just a friendly nerd debate.

The knives won't come out until someone mentions Dr. Who.

      Oh shi…

  8. You know, I prefer any of the Star Treks over BSG. If we're talking the old version of BSG, then WAY more. Even I think this is a pretty stupid statement.

  9. -Why can't you just like both?!? Why do you have to put labels on it, one way or the other, just so you can feel superior???

    1. Now, that's just crazy talk.

    2. You must be some sort of Alien, K.o.T. Debating over pointless shit is human nature!

    3. Heh. -No, not an alien... or a crazy person; just a rational adult who enjoys good science-fiction and sees no point in petty arguments. That REALLY shouldn't be a trait that's in the minority...
Sure, you can have a friendly debate about it, but the guy in this comic is one of those people who is dead serious and actually angry about it all.

  10. Maybe he means the original Battlestar Galactica, which was for people too dumb for the Love Boat.

  11. Where's the "It's true" tag?

Only real nerds could ever find 'Star Trek' to be an intelligent show, while the 2000's BSG is widely recognized as one of the smartest shows ever made.

Gosh, you're right, it's good to know you need an incredible I.Q. to appreciate the subtle nuances of green-skinned alien whores, 500 different copycat alien races that are just different variations of "people with funny bumps on their heads, a society of people that walk around in spandex and listen to classical music while solving every problem by saying "reverse the polarity". Why have an compelling drama like BSG, where actions and consequences actually occur, when I can have a tired old "talk show in space" franchise that should have been put to sleep like a smelly old dog decades ago?

  15. It's hard for me to imagine a more dumbed down, idiotic show that Star Trek. BSG was excellent for the original miniseries and about two seasons after that. Then it became ridiculous religious tripe. And even then, it was still better than Star Trek.

  16. They are both in space so you can TOTALLY compare them!

  17. When I was a kid, I watched Star Trek and BSG whenever I could. Loved them both. Later on, I was a big fan of Farscape. Last decade, I loved the remake of BSG. I have both series of BSG on my shelf. I love Futurama as well. I wonder what the next big sci-fi will be; I can't wait to be once again flying through space with brand new characters and stories.

  18. My first thought reading this comic was, "Now you gone and done it."

Skimming over the comments here... yes, yes he did gone and did it.

  19. "Star Trek" was five shows! None of them were very much like any other. I don't understand how anyone can talk about "Star Trek" as if it's a monolithic entity.

  20. In space... No one can hear you troll...
