Yeah, I can think of a whole bunch of people in Colorado who don't like it right now. Waiting to find out if anyone I know was in the shooting, since that's the theater I used to go to. RIP.
I also hate the Dark Knight Rises, but I know why. Who decided that a series can have only 3 movies? Origin story, sophomore story, then The End? Why is DC killing off the only franchise they have that doesn't totally suck? Seriously, WTF?! And, according to the trailers, Bruce starts the movie having already retired the cape. That's not the Batman I know. James Bond did over 20 movies before their reboot. Sometimes you have to change actors, but the character should remain, not get killed off every ten years.
That's the structure because movies are a form of theater and plays have traditionally had three acts. If it was good enough for Shakespeare, it's good enough for Nolan. Tough luck if it isn't good enough for you. Be grateful he even made three. He could have followed the origin, struggle, victory arc just as easily in a single movie. And then you'd have gotten another Batman and Robin for a sequel.
So you'd rather have Batman become a Franchise Zombie instead of letting itself refresh every now and then? Very few movie series' can pull off having 20 sequels that don't suck. In fact, I think James Bond was the ONLY series that pulled that off, and even then that's debatable.
The trilogy goes back much further than Shakespear. In the classical Greek theatre, they would play three tragedies in one day, all written for the occasion by the same author. These had to conform to the three unities. That is each would tell one story (no subplots), be set in one place, and take place in one day.
To get around this, an author would sometimes make the second and third play sequels to the first. But this was not required. You could also tell three unrelated stories.
I wouldn'T say it SUCKED... but really... if I could ask Nolan one thing I'd ask the following: Do you think you could have maybe done a little more to show the audience that the Bruceman lost everything? Do you? No? Well, maybe that's because you OVERDONE IT TO THE POINT OF RUINING IT! Seriously. It couldn't have been more overdone. Except maybe by having him lose his home and become a junkie. It was just... you know, too much.
Yep, that is in no way a stupid reason. You in no way sound like a contrary moron.
ReplyDeleteFucking Hipsters.
ReplyDeleteGood, i hope he hates it and makes sure he tells everybody on the internet in detail why.
ReplyDeleteDid he decide to wear the Boba Fett shirt because everybody else hates Boba Fett?
ReplyDeleteBut everybody LOVES Boba Fett... What is he gonna do now?!
DeleteWell, I hate Bobe Fett now.

ReplyDeleteP.S. And yes, I hate the new Spider-man movie for the same reasons. I am absolutly sick to death of the reboots.

Fair enough, Edward.
DeleteI read that in a couple of years Marvel movies will reboot about halfway through the film.
ReplyDeleteThey should have done that with Superhero Movie.
DeleteExcept no one would've noticed.
Silly, silly man. I saw the movie first and now I hate it because I KNOW IT SUCKED!
