The Simpsons comics started out as a weak impression of the TV show. Now the TV show has become so bad itself that the comics largely serve as a reminder of how good it used to be.
I'm sorry. I think these comics are hilarious and I usually love them, but Lady GaGa is awesome. I don't mind if you don't think so, but I am just saying not everyone who visits this site thinks she is terrible.
I think it's more that the episode with her in it was terrible. Plus the fact that they dedicated an episode to ANY singer. The Michael Jackson episode was at least clever.
Anonymous 12:31. I'm not a huge fan of Lady Gaga, but I do think she's interesting--she's obviously a talented performer and a very creative person. So, you're not the only one.
@Adam M - and Michael Jackson had already become a near-legendary part of American culture by the time they did that episode in 1991, nine years after Thriller, 12 after his first solo album and decades after the Jackson 5.
Lady Gaga will probably achieve lasting success but right now she still feels way too much like a trendy new thing, and is a lot more polarizing than MJ anyway.
Does anyone actually work on 'The Simpsons' anymore? I think the show has become sentient, like Skynet, and has started creating episodes without any human interference.
I do know Matt Groening focuses more on Futurama, which may have something to do with why Simpsons has been low quality recently. It's kinda like how Family Guy isn't as good as it used to be because Seth McFarlane focuses more on American Dad.

ReplyDeleteBingo, and they got pretty good in their own right in the interim. The old Bartman comics in particular kicked so much ass.
DeleteThere's a Simpsons comic?
ReplyDeleteAnd Futurama.
DeleteI thought that the part for lady gaga was funny and clever while the writing for lisa that episode was a hack job.

...I assume you mean "more polarizing than MJ was in 1991, anyway."
DeleteDid anyone see that episode of the show? Say what you will about recent Simpson episodes but this one was a new low. WORST EPISODE EVER.

DeleteNot only was it about lady GaGa but it was a Lisa centerd episode. And Lisa eps are... really hard to watch.
ReplyDelete@ anonymous 2:07
ReplyDeletenot as hard as watching an episode about Meg.
Fuck Meg.
Gigigity Gigigity! All Right!
No apostrophe needed in the title (SIMPSONS). Thanks.
ReplyDeleteIn the words of one H. Simpson: "It's funny because it's true!"
ReplyDeleteWait, the Simpsons is still going?
ReplyDeleteWait, Lady Gaga still exists?
Ah, sometimes ignorance is bliss...
