To his girlfriend...

  1. Unless. You know. You like Joss Whedon?

  2. Afterwards: "YOU haven't fully understood the myriad ways they messed up character development, nuance of story, and artistic design, as I have."

  3. If you haven't read the source material, you shouldn't see the movie? How badly would those kind of movies do if that happened? I haven't read the comics, but I have watched the cartoon, played Ultimate Alliance, and I'm in a Marvel tabletop RPG campaign in which we have crossed paths with the Avengers. (We even trained at the Avengers Academy.) I loved the movie. Joss Whedon knows his audience and obviously loves the series. Anyway, if you're here, go see it. Don't worry about not having read the comics.

  4. This guy reminds me of the people who pitched a fit about the Juggernaut being a mutant in X-Men 3, as if that were the problem.

  5. almost every time a customer goes off, out loud, on an obviously ridiculously stupid rant such as this i like that they're usually depicted all jacked up on some sort of caffeinated beverage.

  6. translated: Honey, I am broke and can't really afford two 3D tickets, so I am just going to go by myself.

HA! I think that this was probably the reason.

  7. It's comics like these that I wish you also drew the person they're talking to, to see what their reactions look like.

  8. Or, you could just watch the movies that were building up to The Avengers, which will be just as good a plan if not better since those other movies actually take place in the same universe as the Avengers movie and not the comics.

  9. To his hopefully-soon-to-be-ex girlfriend...

  10. Yeah, right, cuz these movies don't make any allowances for the "uninitiated". They never include an scene solely for the purpose of revealing important information that every fanboy knows, but the average person does not.

  11. If the new Avengers movie has a single frame of Chris Hemsworth without his shirt...it will have been all worthwhile for her.

  12. Ok, see, this is just one of the many reasons for the "dragging a girlfriend to a geek movie" stereotype. Girlfriend may actually want to see it, boyfriend acts like an elitist/douche/elitist douche and she no longer feels excited about see it.

Of course, were it me, I'd be seeing it alone because I'd've dumped his ass right then and there.

    1. Thats not what literally everyone else I have talked to has said about it. Even the Batman fanboy who wanted it to fail.

    2. Yeah. Watched it last night. It sucked. Also, it seemed to have more than a passing similarity to Stargate. It was kind of surreal.

    3. Watched it three times when it came out in the UK, it was so awesome. I wasn't too fussed about the Ultimates things included - I don't want to spoil though. But Jesus, if I had a cock I'd have jizzed at the after credits thing (I think my friend actually did he was so happy).

I can understand some guys being like this, there is a kind of elitism that I get from "geeky guys" who seem to not trust "geeky girls" (you know, the ones who aren't into comics and crap because it's the cool and fly thing to do right now, the ones who are into them because they've liked them forever) for some bizarre reason.
Maybe they think real 'geek' girls (I'm loathe to use that term because it keeps getting stolen by girls who stick on a pair of fake glasses and talk about how much they love that Marvel character Batman) are all just fakers trying to look cool because that's the cool thing to like these days.

Or maybe this guy is just a total dickhat and hopefully she dumped his stupid arse right there and then. If not, Mr. Tim should have backhanded the quim.

  14. I think it might be the opposite. As someone who usually likes the book more than the movie, I say not reading the comics might help(I just read a few avengers comics), because then you won't sit there going "This is wrong! I know, it could never be the same, it's a very different medium, but, it's just, argh!"

  15. Yeah. With a story so complex, so rich, so challenging, it would be like reading Borges in translation....

  17. I understand that everyone has differing opinions and that everyone's opinion matters and such. But if you thought that the Avengers movie sucked, you're just wrong. Sorry. I mean, you think it "wasn't that good", fine. "Not your favorite movie", also fine. But it was far, FAR from terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  18. No, it wasn't terrible. However, it was far from GREATEST MOVIE EVARRR. I mostly enjoyed myself, so the film did its job.

  19. Come on, nobody reads The Avengers!
