To his friend...

  1. I haven't had a girlfriend in 11 years. I wouldn't care if she was into Care Bears doujinshi

  2. I can see why this got the "it's true" tag; that's a completely legitimate reason to end a romantic relationship.

  3. Really? Guess I'm weird cause I'd see that as a bonus not a red flag.

  4. I used to have a girlfriend who was a wrestler and a Harley Quinn cosplayer. I now have a restraining order out against her.

  5. I always laugh when feminists call Harley Quinn a strong female character.
Being emotionally dependent on and obsessed with her psychotic and abusive boyfriend sure is strong an independent.

    1. I have NEVER heard Harley Quinn referred to as a strong female character. Maybe I hang out with less retarded feminists than you?

    2. Sounds like you hardly ever laugh.

  6. something was once said about pickers and choosers. can't remember exaclty what, but think it applies here.

    3. You can pick your friends.

      You can pick your nose.

But you can't pick your friend's nose.

Okay, I'm confused. Harley Quinn is tough, sexy, totally devoted to her man AND has a great wardrobe. What more could you want?

    1. If by "totally devoted to her man" you mean pretty much let's herself be abused and taken advantage of...

      Isnt' that what I said?

  8. When I was in high school, girls liked either Sandman, Kabuki or Johnny the Homicidal Maniac. Just sayin'.

    1. I went to a school of artists. Those three were everywhere. "This comic is just about him killing a whole bunch of people." "I know, isn't great?"

  9. And leave the Harley Quinn fan to me

  10. Son, do you think I should be here if I had a girlfriend?

    ReplyDelete
  11. I love Harley Quinn.
If it turned out my girlfriend loves her too, I'd say we make a fine couple indeed.

  12. Context is important. Is this classy Diniverse Harley, or Juggalette New 52 Harley?

    1. This. Are we talking about the cute bimbo who whored her way into her old job, then swooned over a murderer because he sent her a flower after smacking her through a fifth-story* window? Or the independent tits-in-tights who once blinded a little girl for bucks but felt somewhat bitter about it afterwards?

*More or less, can't be arsed to go back and count 'em.

Regardless, publicly trash-mouthing a guy's girl like that is pretty jerky.

  13. To be fair, except with her unhealthy obsession with the Joker, her one fault (which all interesting characters have), she is a pretty great character.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Oh, how did this not get a "jerks" tag? It's been almost nothing but "jus' folks", one after another, for like weeks now, and like, okay, but now angry loudmouths yelling at their friends to dump their girlfriends over Harley Quinn are only "jus' folks" too? Guh!

    ReplyDelete

    1. When the answer to the number of weeks its been is on the same page of the comic you're currently looking at, and you still can't get it right, your opinions don't matter.

P.S: It's less than one week of Jus' Folk.

    2. I said "ALMOST nothing but". When the qualifier for the statement you're treating as an absolute is in the comment you're replying to, and you still can't get it right, how can you possibly try and judge whose opinions matter?

And my real point was that now he's starting to label customers who fit other categories as "jus' folks" as well, so it's getting ridiculous.

    3. Shut up.

  15. Why? As damaged as Harley Quinn is, no one can say she's not loyal. She won't cheat and she'll definitely go to bat for you any day of the week.

  16. @Anon 7:02 - the 12th year is the worst.

  17. She's a terrible role-model, but who says this girl wants to be like HQ? My favorite superhero is Moon Knight (I know, I know) but that doesn't mean I want to be a crazy man.

    1. ^This.

It's like saying anyone who likes Batman is a dealbreaker because deep down Batman is a sociopath who can't get over his parent issues and dresses up like a bat to beat people up as compensation.

Yeah, they have their problems, but that doesn't mean they can't still be good characters.

    2. Yeah, exactly. It really bugs me when people equate being a good character to being a good role model--or, in Harley's case, a strong female character. It's fine to have a favorite character who you admire and would like to emulate, but it's also fine to have a favorite character who you would never in a million years want to be like. People don't read (or watch) stuff just to look for role models.

Man, if I knew the three of you in real life, I'd buy you a round. I couldn't agree more. I read all kinds of novels, graphic and otherwise, to get a great story, and great stories often involve despicable people--characters you find interesting and even sympathetic, but whom you wouldn't want to be closer to than the next county in real life (Tony Soprano?). I don't read stories to surround myself with make-believe friends. That's what Facebook is for.

Oh, crap. I meant to enter this under replies to the above comment and two replies. My eye are getting old.

    2. ...ok, but your first comment suggested she was a great person.

I thought the part about her having a great wardrobe was a signal that I was kind of joking.

    4. Don't worry Brad, I got the sarcasm. I'm glad I inspired this discussion. Thanks for the intended round.

  19. Yeah, my girlfriend's favorite comic character is also Harley. Her favorite musical is Rent, but I don't think she's hoping to get AIDS...

  20. You know, there's always a douchebag who says this about ANY character, not just Harley Quinn. "Your Boy/Girlfriend's favorite character is X? You should dump him/her!" Needless to say, it's not the best way to judge a person. Unless said favorite character was a Neo-Nazi or KKK Grand Dragon or something like that...

  21. The girl could be worst. She could hate Golden Child.

    ReplyDelete
  22. WRONG!!!!
I´d love it if my girlfriends fave character would be HQ. This would mean we would have a common ground.
Me thinks this is a case of stealth "Stop liking what I don´t like!"

    ReplyDelete
  23. Dislike, Mr. Tim. This should definitely get a "jerks" tag, or maybe even a "dopes".

    ReplyDelete
  24. Shit, by this logic of 'girls who like HQ want to be HQ' ... my mum reads an awful lot of crime fiction. Either she wants to be a wise cracking police detective, or a serial killer...

    ReplyDelete
  25. No, when you've really got to worry is when her favorite character is The Joker, but she has Harley Quinn outfits in her closet.

Anyways, the only real concern I'd have if her favorite character was Harley is that she might steal all my Harley merch.

  26. In my experience as a retailer, never EVERY guy's girlfriend is a Harley Quinn fan.

  27. I just got back from C2E2. After seeing all the Harley Quinn cosplayers, I would say that whoever happens to be dating them is a lucky guy or girl

  28. Well.. shit.. this comic just brought back some really bad memories.. Shit.. I thought this site was supposed to make me laugh..
