Looks more like a logo for a stationery company to me, but yeah. Have to agree, it doesn't look like the logo for a comic company, one way or the other.
As a graphic designer, I have to say this guy is spot on. It does look like a pudding cup. Also, notice how the peel back doesn't so much look like a peeled "D" as a reveal for the letter "C." It reads like "C Comics."
The previous one was a modern take on the classic. There was no need for an update.
I get the stationery thing. I first thought of a business app icon when I saw it. Definitely not comics.

Really? Cause it looked like it could belong to a toothpaste company. Also, people don't seem to realize something: DC Comics didn't change their logo; DC Comics' logo got changed. The ENTIRE DC Entertainment line got an update branding package -- this isn't something Jim Lee and Dan Didio did this is something that came down from on high.
I personally like the new logo. I know I´m in a minority here, but I think its much better than the previous logo, which looked IMO like an early 2000´s logo of a third-string college sports team.
They're DC-licious!

ReplyDeleteThat's Pringles.
DeleteNo, Pringles is "once you pop, you can't stop".
DeleteAh, the Vanilla Ice Defense.

Now all DC needs is Bill Cosby to say "Zizzam Zazzam!" about the new 52.
ReplyDeleteDidn't they just debut that old one a few years ago?

I looks to me like a cross between a web browser icon, and some kind of business-y company's logo.
ReplyDeleteIt sucks. Bring back the bullet.
ReplyDeleteThis post right here should get the "It's true" tag.
DeleteIt reminds me of the blue protective film you peel off of the face of a new watch.
ReplyDeleteI will never un-see this now.
