Man, not very many of these make me angry -- it's hard to be angry with people who are only stupid -- but this one makes me VERY ANGRY. Not just stupid, MEAN.
I'm sure there is a perfectly reasonable explanation for that. For example, her daughter is a costumed crimefighter! Yeah! And she doesn't need to go trick-or-treating because there's no greater trick than kicking the superstitious cowardly butts and there's no greater treat than protecting the innocent! YAY!
Unless you make your own costume, or do what I do and wear dudes costumes! It may seem weird, but its WAY more comfortable than having stuff strangling you!
Ghost, Zombie, non-sexy vampire, non-sexy werewolf, Harry Potter is pretty popular right now, any of the tasteful variants of fairy, the grim reaper.
Just off the top of my head. Girls have options for costumes. With the exception of specific male characters most costumes are actually gender neutral anyway. Plus this is all assuming you're buying some crappy premade costume instead of just making it from scratch.
I'd argue that if you can't figure out a non-slutty costume for your daughter then that's probably a manifestation of a larger problem with your own personal attitudes towards girls.
I never got to celebrate Halloween throughout my childhood/life because my mom never let me. She was religious and would also say that it was a holiday for boys. ...And in case you can't tell, I'm a girl...
I feel so sorry for those who weren't allowed to celebrate Halloween, it's so much fun. I'm a 22 year old girl and my mother is actively helping me with my costume.
This made me get a rage on. I'm 28 and I still insist on dressing up every year, even if I am too old for Trick or Treating. (until I have kids, anyway...)
That poor girl.

This is one of those times where I think it would be even funnier if we knew the logic behind the idiocy.
ReplyDeleteHalloween is an excuse to hang out, get free candy and, if you're of age, get drunk while wearing a Gumby costume.
...wait, you need an excuse for that?
ReplyDeleteSaddens me that traditions such as Halloween will die off within a generation or so simply out of fear or, in this case, ignorance.
ReplyDeleteI... I...
ReplyDeleteTell me you kicked her out of the store. I'm pretty level-headed, and I just want to slap this woman.
Football Stadium Attendant to woman - "Well Ma'am,even if you are from Greenbay you still can't come in. Football is for boys anyways.

ReplyDeleteShe must have been muslim. I overhead a very similar comment by a muslim woman covered head to toe on the subway. Either that or she's just an idiot.
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, girls aren't given much of a choice for costumes nowadays. It's all just variants of "slut".

DeleteWhat about "old ugly witch with green face and warts and long crooked nose"? It's a classic!

Non-sluty costume..."BULLDYKE".... after all, Halloween is for boys right?

That is one of the most depressing things I've ever heard.
ReplyDeleteRazors in candy apples and some slutty nurses have ruined everything...
ReplyDeleteSeriously what ever happened to making your own costume anyway. Its always more fun anyway. And theres that sense of pride.
Anon 12:36 can be tomorrow's cartoon.
ReplyDeleteBURN THE HERETIC
ReplyDeleteRight. Because _NO_ girl has _EVER_ wanted any shred of an excuse to dress up like a princess.

ReplyDeleteThat's probably the absolute best response we're ever gonna see to this sentiment.

ReplyDeleteThat is really sad. :(
ReplyDeletePeople like her are what ruin our society.

ReplyDeleteThis lady deserves to be slapped, and shoved into a hole!
