After his friend said that his favorite TV show was DOCTOR WHO...

Delightful.

  1. Nah. I'm thinking of the guy in the suit and sneakers who would just as soon consign you to death for being a dillhole.

  2. No, that's Doctor You-Hoo.

  3. So they're good enough friends to go shopping / hang out at a store together, but they've never once discussed favorite TV shows?

Also, there's a special circle of hell for you for making that Doctor You-Hoo joke...and I'll probably be in the one right below it for giggling as much as I did.

  4. Are you sure he's not thinking of Sherlock?

  5. "So they're good enough friends to go shopping / hang out at a store together, but they've never once discussed favorite TV shows? "

Favorite shows can change, right? A few months ago my favorite show was Firefly, and then I discovered Avatar: The Last Airbender.

  6. So your favourite shows Firefly then.So your favourite shows Firefly then.

  7. Why does it seem that anybody in nerd culture cicles is required to like Dr. Who?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Um, because Doctor Who is awesome!

It also lends itself really well to our demographic.

  9. I don't like it, but I'd by no means use a derisive, homophobic word to describe the protagonist. Respect for other fanbases, people!

  10. THIS MAN MUST DIE. Actually, fork him over to the Cybermen. Then he won't be able to think for himself. Same purpose without the death. ^_^ [/Whovian]

  11. The really sad part here is that the Doctor hasn't worn a scarf for 30 years. Shows how influential Tom Baker's portrayal remains in the public mind, I guess.

  12. DOCTOR WHO ISN'T EVEN A REAL DOCTOR

    ReplyDelete
  13. His name's not Who, and you're right, he's not a doctor. He's THE Doctor.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Kill him. Or, if fear of legal repercussions stay your hand, maybe just ban him from the store? Please?

    ReplyDelete
  15. So he's not a doctor and his name's not Who. What's next, a show named "Lord Banjo" about some guy who's not a lord and who doesn't even own a banjo?..

  16. Ugh. I hate when you do gay topics, Mr. Tim - half the comments here are often worse than the ones we're supposed to be slamming. I swear half of you are live blogging from 1997 in front of an episode of Will and Grace.

    ReplyDelete
  17. How are the topics gay, Tigerama? Do they have sex with other topics that are the same as them?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Actually the Doctor is *a* doctor too. He has a medical degree.

  20. Argh.
If I would have been there, I would kicked that little snots manboobs in. This kind of ignorant shit makes me blind with rage. Not only the usual nerd rage, but real red-seeing, dog-kicking, rampaging rage. That Homophobic bit is probably the last drop for me. He is not only insulting Doctor Who and its fans (count me in here) but also homosexuals everywhere. Even worse, he double-insults gay Whovians!

  21. Somebody EX-TER-MI-NATE this philistine.

  22. No one is required to like it. I didn't care for it at all when many of my friends did, back in college when PBS stations showed tons of Monty Python and Doctor Who during pledge drives (I loved the Python, and I admit that even Doctor Who was better than the Three Tenors, Peter, Paul, and Mary, and Celtic Woman of current pledge drives).

I didn't like it, and I didn't like Red Dwarf, and I haven't liked Lexx or Farscape or any of the Stargate shows or Hercules or Xena or any of the countless syndicated genre shows that have come and gone. The stories are silly and the acting is hard to watch.

I have, however, started watching the show with this last doctor. I like him, and I like his companion. The stories are just as cheesy as they've always been, but modern cheap CGI keeps it from being as hard to watch as the earlier ones.

I suspect that, when they resolve whatever's going on and Matt Smith gets replaced by another Doctor, I'll lose interest again.

  23. okay. doctor who is not gay. he's british.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Right, he's not a "queer" with a scarf. He's a corny idiot with a phone booth. And a scarf. But mainly a phone booth.

    ReplyDelete
  25. YOU DIDN'T LIKE RED DWARF?!?!?!

    ReplyDelete
  26. It might have been later seasons of Red Dwarf...I love me some RD, but even I can't stomach the last few seasons...

    ReplyDelete
  27. PEOPLE PEOPLE...please...I think what you're missing here, is that this man...doesn't have a logo on his shirt.

    ReplyDelete
  28. ... you're right.
It can't be. It must be... it must be there!
Who is this man and what was he doing in the shop?!

    ReplyDelete
  29. How did this mouth-breather even know about that? Scarf Doctor was 30 years and seven doctors ago.

    ReplyDelete
  30. He has one chance to take that back.

No second chances. I'm that sort of a man.

    ReplyDelete
  31. @Person Man: The fourth doctor 'is' probably the most recognizable because of the scarf.

It's a good bet that the guy saw that Doctor on a youtube show or Family Guy. Nobody gets their pop culture from actually watching great shows anymore.

  32. @Doctor Tarr
How do you feel about Star Trek? Or The Guide? Or any other classic SF TV?

    ReplyDelete
  33. MORE LIKE DR. WHO CARES AMIRITE

Seriously though, Dr. Who sucks, and it's a shame this person had to get sexual to express that.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I've never heard of the Guide.

I like Star Trek, but I was a child when I watched most of the episodes the first time. I liked ST:TNG at the time, although I saw a rerun recently and it wasn't holding up to well.

Loved Firefly, loved the first two seasons of the new Battlestar Galactica, loved the first season of Heroes.

  35. @Doctor Tarr

For your failure to have ever listened to the radio play, read the book or even watched the movie of the Hitchhikers Guild to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, I hereby revoke your doctorate.

    ReplyDelete
  36. ...erm... Hitchhiker's GUIDE to the Galaxy...

  37. No no no, Doctor Who is the one with the scarf, Jack Harkness is the gay one. Someone should explain that to this dude, he's combining characters.

    ReplyDelete
  38. No, no Jack Harkness isn't gay, he's omnisexual.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I hope his friend was talking about classic Who.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Tom Baker is the only Doctor who's appeared on "The Simpsons." That must be why this plebeian knows him and none of the others.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I know the idiot meant it to be insulting, but he's not actually wrong. "Queer" as a term of self-identification just means "not heterosexual". As far as I know, Tom Baker explicitely played his Doctor as ace, if that's the only one this guy dimly remembers watching at some point in his childhood. The Eigth Doctor seemed hetero in the movie, but is written as bi in the extended universe. The Ninth Doctor was written as bi in the series, happily flirting with both Jack and Charles Dickens but emotionally more focussed on women. The Tenth Doctor was written as hetero-but-doesn't-mind-being-hit-on-by-guys, but still read as ace thanks to Tennant's awkward acting. Most of the others were never defined and put in a box. The Doctor exists outside 20th century social constructs of identity and his sexuality is a fluid thing. "Queer" really is the best word to describe it, IMHO.

  42. Mere seconds after this man spoke, he was killed by Britain.

Not by British people, but by the collective will and anger of England itself, which rose up into a living creature in the form of a mighty Union Jack-painted lion forged of Birmingham steel and devoured the ignorant sod whole.

    Nobody gave a shit.
