He's right. There is nothing about Claire's clothing that is distinctive enough to make it obvious. She doesn't have a unique costume like Superman or wear the same clothes every day like Fonzie. If you don't look like her you are just dressed like a random girl. Probably a random cheerleader. That's like dressing as James Bond and everyone thinks you're a waiter. If people can't tell what you're supposed to be your costume sucks.
So....you are defending this guy and his rights to insult his girlfriend, because she doesn't look like Claire, in the face region? Well damn, call the presses and tell everyone they should just stop cosplaying, our faces are just too different! Besides if you have a geek girl willing to do that, you should appreciate that.
Seriously, if you're a blonde girl wearing a red and white cheerleader outfit at a convention, everyone and their mom will get it. In fact, I'm pretty sure MY Mom would get it.
He's probably worn her self-esteem down to the point where she feels like this is the best she's ever going to do. Personally, when my girlfriend does a costume (or hell, comes to a comic convention in the first place), I pretty much thank mighty All-Father Odin that my girl is cool enough and apparently likes me enough to put up with the stares, the photo ops, and the potential for inappropriate grabby-ness just for me.
Moral of the story: Girls who go to comic conventions in costumes are way to good for the guys they are there with.
@12:59 Anon Claire's cheerleader uniform is distinctive -- cheerleader uniforms are supposed to be, to differentiate them from competing troupes.
Seriously, you couldn't tell the difference from Claire's uniform against that of a Laker Girl? Or a cheerleader from Sunnydale, or Neptune High? The uniforms all have unique designs that remain consistent throughout their respective canons.
I mean, that's like saying you can't cosplay as Riker because he's wearing a Starfleet uniform.
@Donovon Davis, Why would somebody dress as Claire?
Because Claire was a cheerleader. Because getting your hands on a cheerleaders uniform is easier then another costume. Maybe the gf doesn't know any better. Because its the only thing she was willing to go as for her slime of a bf? Any number of reasons other than 'Claire was the most annoying character on Heroes'?
what a nice catch the lady has for him to be so honest to point out to her that she failed in the claire costum do to her features. can one say soon besides she returned the favor with her fist and thus he will refer to her now as his ex
And they said that it wouldn't last...because it won't
ReplyDeleteAnd then she rearranged HIS face.
ReplyDeleteBecause cosplayers magically turn into the people they dress up as.
ReplyDeleteDEAR GAWD this asshat will breed someday
ReplyDelete"clobber time!"
ReplyDeleteSo his girlfriend wears a cheerleader outfit and he bitches about it?
ReplyDeleteHow insightful of him to point that out.

ReplyDelete@Anon 2:46 PM - She has really low standards?

If you're going to cosplay as Riker, you better have one bitchin' beard, that's all I'm saying.
ReplyDeleteYeah, a Riker costume needs a REAL beard. :)
ReplyDelete1. Claire was the most annoying character on Heroes, so why anyone would want to be her is beyond my understanding.
ReplyDelete2. I can see that this relationship is going to last. Nothing says true love like talking about your girlfriend's face.

take your pick.
OVC is really at its best when it can draw out comments as bad as the person featured in the comic.
ReplyDeleteto One avid woman cosplayer.
ReplyDeleteYes everyone please stop cosplaying.
