Depends on if the guy's the writer, the artist, or both. Unless he's on deadline, he should be stressed about other things. The webcomic should be his release.
I don't think the joke is that he's a guy with a webcomic that's stressed out by the workload, it's that he hasn't STARTED yet. He's not the writer, artist, or anything. He's just a guy thinking about making a webcomic. That is literally anyone who reads a webcomic and thinks "yeah, I could totally do that".
As the author/artist of a webcomic, I gotta say, this "thinking" shiz is totally hard and stuff! The sitting hunched over a sketchbook then scritching on a Bamboo tablet for 5-ish hours is totally the easiest part!
I think people are underestimating how stressful conception of an idea can actually be. I agree with Dave, actually working on the content can often be the easiest part, but all the thought involved in preparation and developing an idea can be a lot of mental work. This guy MIGHT NOT be just a lazy dude who will probably have a shitty webcomic, he MIGHT be a perfectionist who's worried about getting it right out of the gate. Just saying.
My husband used to bitch about this until he finally manned up and did it. I mean, 7 years easy he sat on his sketches. (www.nickelbeer.net) Not saying that what you do is easy. . . Just that people shouldn't bitch if they aren't doing the work.
Holy crap. That sounds way too much like me, but it's something I've never really said out loud nor anything I've said down at the local shop.
Though really the frustration is from being stupid and not actually working on getting those ideas down and written. The actual ideas fly by like nothin. Actually doing something about it is the effort.
"Problems are hard!"
ReplyDeleteA cookie for getting the reference.
Sadly, I have been saying much the same. This got set as my desktop background.

ReplyDeleteAs someone with a webcomic... it's the keeping it up, every week, for the rest of your life that's the stressful part.
ReplyDeleteDouble if you actually try to do things that get other people to read it. ;)

ReplyDeletePlease, don't pollute the internet with another half-assed webcomic.
ReplyDeleteOh this guy is definitely going to be part of the 90% in Sturgeon's Law, no doubt about it... Assuming he even makes his webcomic...

ReplyDeleteThere's something poetic about this one...
ReplyDeleteAnother Chris Chan waiting to happen. Stress sighs and all...
ReplyDeleteDang trolls and THEIR MOCKERY of My True and Honest Hedgehog Pokemon!
ReplyDeleteIt's truly not that hard to make a webcomic. there's thousands of them out there. Quality, on the other hand, is something to stress over.
