To his friends...

Today's customer was submitted by Lisa Elliott From Oregon who
overheard this gem at a costume event at her local library.
Congrats to Lisa and thanks to all of the OVC: Year One contest entries!
They were all awesome! You guys are the best and thank you
all for reading my comic. Regular programming resumes tomorrow.

  1. Frankly, homosexuality regarding pirates isn't really a matter of which side you wear the patch. What with their flamboyant fashion, embracement of debauchery and...long sea voyages...with nary a woman in sight...for months on end...

  2. Is.....is that actually a thing in gay culture?

I'm not knocking it if it is, I've just never ever heard of it before.

  3. The fool! Everyone knows is the HOOK that has a gay side not the eye patch! What a maroon.

  4. Now I'm just picturing a pirate begging someone not to put out his "gay eye"...

  5. Will: There is a tradition that wearing a ring in a particular ear (I forget which one) is a way for a man to signify that he is gay. This has been the pretext for the scene in movies and sitcoms in which a straight man decides to be fashionable and wear an earring, only to worry that he has chosen the "wrong" ear. Presumably, the guy in this cartoon has heard some mangled version of that.

  7. "What an adventure, gang. I thought that the homosexuals were pirates, but it turns out most of them were actors in the local theater!"

  8. Wow. . . And why does he care so much? Does he think there is some gay rapist with a pirate fetish at the local library?

  9. @ Pixie: Are we all certain that there isn't?

  12. If he was wearing it on the "gay eye," would that make him a butt pirate?

  13. I wonder if straight pirates wear their eyepatches, peg legs and parrots all on the same side? Maybe the problem on the high seas wasn't scurvy but a natural imbalance due to over-compensation. Just goes to show you that a little orange juice and tolerance can go a long way. I'm so glad this anecdote made the blog, and that it made y'all laugh as much as I did.

  14. The stereotype is that gay people always wear an earring on their right ear.

Avast! He is covering his right eye! Gay pirate alert!

  16. It's a well known rumor I just made up that homosexuals always lose their left eye, left hand or left leg. Something about the disgusting curse we all share I shouldn't wonder.
