    Is he wrong?

(Interestingly, the verification word I got for posting this comment was "pansy".)

  2. Did he never read Sandman Vol. 2, "The Doll's House"?

Seriously, the Corinthian and the serial killer convention hangs out there with the grimmest stuff Moore's come up with.

  3. I'd say Neil Gaiman is Alan Moore for people who like existentialism more than Nihilism.

Also, am I the only one in thinking that Gaiman's non-comic related work is mostly bad?

  4. @Pro - I just finished his novel 'Stardust', and it was wonderful! Not exactly dark and brooding, more of a fairy tale, but Gaiman does those well.

  5. @ Pro - No, you are not

You aren't the only one, but you're certainly not in a plurality.

  7. I think that's grounds for justifiable homicide right there.

  8. Sure, he's a jerk, but I found that amusing.

  9. Assuming we're judging manliness by length of beard, of course.

  10. If you think Neverwhere or American Gods is bad, then you kinda suck. Also, Gaimen is awesome as is Alan Moore. they both have created great comics.

Interesting you mention the serial killer convention, since that was directly based on one issue of Moore's run on Swamp Thing. Remember how the Corinthian makes a reference to some killer having died two years ago in a swamp in Louisiana? Guess where that came from.

  12. Having met Neil, I say even his non-comic work is glorious... when properly taken in. Neil explained to me that the trick to enjoying his work is not to read it but hear it read aloud. He proceeded to demonstrate with a passage from Stardust and it was 10x better than I ever recall reading it on the page.

  13. The Graveyard Book was loads of fun, wish stuff like that was out when I was a kid. And Pro's first statement is pretty much correct.

  14. No, American Gods kinda sucked. Not his best work.

  15. I'm not a huge fan of Neil Gaiman's work, as what I have read has been rather inconsistent in terms of quality, but his Tragical Comedy or Comical Tragedy of Mister Punch is excellent.

  17. A magnificently idiotic statement. That's why I love this site.

  18. I really feel the best way to compare the two is to use that parody of Live At The Apollo on the Simpsons (Black dudes drive like THIS, white dudes drive like THIS...) except in their case it's "Alan Moore is a mad genius like THIS, and Neil Gaiman is a mad genius like THIS..."

    ReplyDelete
  19. "American Gods kinda sucked"? I can't even begin to process that statement...

The mad genius comparison is probably the most apt for these two.

  21. Oh snap! Wonder what he thinks about Warren Ellis? He kinda completes the holy trinity of brilliant british comic authors. Comparing and contrasting them is fun...though even USING the word pansy makes him sound more like a Warren Ellis fan than an Alan Moore fan.

  22. (takes another look) did he actually say 'pussy' while wearing the black lantern ring shirt? Really? If so I want to watch a trippin balls tranny kick his ass for sullying Moore's name by association.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Ellis fucking blows. He's a less talented and adolescent poor man's Michael Moorcock.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Grant Morrison and Peter Milligan don't get mentioned among genius British comic authors? I can almost see forgetting Jamie Hewlet but Morrison?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Dang. Not really a fair comparison, they create pretty different material. Also, Moore is completely insane. Awesome, but insane. If Neil seems a pussy by comparison, I think its because he still has all of his faculties intact.

  26. "Ellis fucking blows. He's a less talented and adolescent poor man's Michael Moorcock."

Thank Fing god someone else realized this.

  27. Neil Gaiman is the comic writter for people who want to pretend they dont read comic. "Comic no chance, but this Sandman Graphic Novel is brilliant" and emo shit. www.dailystooge.com
