  3. the comic book store i used to work at had a porn section. all stacked with current and back issues of everything from playboy and penthouse to more really hardcore stuff. wasn't a secret either.

funny seeing the more timid fanboys scanning the racks and avoiding that section with their eyes.

  4. Porn, of course, being really difficult to get hold of in 2011.

  5. The secret password to the porn shop I worked at was not to get lippy when I asked for your ID.

  6. You were laughing because this guy will never figure out your password, weren't you?

  7. So seriously ..... What's the password?

  8. Zanadu Comics in downtown Seattle has a porn section. It's caged off from the rest of the store, so when you're in there, you feel like an animal. Or so I've heard...

  9. The password is "I'm honestly sorry if I've been an idiot in the past, MRTIM."

    Gets you in every time!

  10. Creepy. I am always sketchy of people shy/ashamed of their porn habits.

  11. Having seen more than my fair share of adult sections in comic shops, I'm not surprised that this is an actual belief.

  12. Is "Geoff J." in these comments the real Geoff Johns?

  13. I used to refer to Golden Apple in LA as "Golden Porn" back when they were closer to Fairfax.

That said, I'm sorta coming to believe you're making these up. (a) they're WAY too good, (b) they seem to happen regularly, and (c) do your customers not know that you have this blog? I can't believe folks would lack this much self-awareness.

But I could be wrong... actually I would love to see a strip based on folks who work in comic stores

  14. Anon,

I totally believe that these are true. I hear gems like this every time I visit my regular game store or comic shop for an hour or two.

I especially enjoyed the recent conversation about the Adult Video News awards I heard between some adults (ages 30-40) at the game store. It was pretty graphic. Unfortunately, the conversation took place in the middle of a sea of 9-12 year olds. AND one of the more imaginative speakers had his little kids standing right next to him. Father of the year material, right there.

  18. Are we sure he's an idiot and not just screwing with someone he knows is gullible?

  19. Is it, "Walt sent me?"

  20. This is completely true. At lease in all of the comic stores I worked at.

  21. My old store didn't have a porn section, but they did have a bunch of "adult" comics like Tarot and shit. They had their own special rack in a corner where they could watch and make sure no kids were getting into them from the counter, and were all kept bagged, boarded, and taped shut. They also kept all the stuff like Marvels MAX series and DCs Vertigo titles over there. They would card for all of these, as well.

  22. These days, the backroom is referred to by comicbook store owners as "Computer with Internet connection".

  23. Between the internet and the draconian crackdowns on comic book stores, I don't see why they'd stock porn at all.

  24. I just realized something visiting one of the nearby comic stores the other day. There's actually a sex shop somewhat behind it. You have to go around outside, but it's pretty much the same building. So... in a way... the comic is true.
