Regarding a V for Vendetta (Guy Fawkes) mask hanging in the store...

Happy New Years Everybody!

  1. Do these people actually say OMG or are you shortening it?

And Happy New Year to you too.

  2. I've definitely heard pre-teens and teens blurting out "O-M-G."

  3. Might as well take down dark knight movie poster and the wolverine action figures while you are at it.

  5. Does that really qualify the dude as a "crazy"?

Even after the film, I doubt your average person is going to make the immediate connection with V FOR VENDETTA. Not like it's a plastic Captain America shield or a pair of Hulk hands.

Though Hulk hands are pretty random, too.

  6. That was SOOOOOOOOOOOO ~*random*~ LOLZ!

  7. I must be crazy too. I still associate Guy Fawkes masks with Guy Fawkes, not V for Vendetta.

  8. Deconstructionism shows that Guy Fawkes masks are associated with: Guy Fawkes, V for Vendetta, 4chan and Anonymous

  9. 99% of the U.S. have no bloody idea who Guy Fawkes even is. We have our our national Icons you know.

  11. To be fair, Sheridan, Guy Fawkes isn't particularly relevant to American history and culture, and those American Alan Moore fans who know Fawkes from reading V for Vendetta are often left with the mistaken impression that Fawkes was an anarchist instead of being a proponent of Catholic theocracy who was out to kill Protestants.

  12. I'd say the focus of this was more him saying "OMG" in response to seeing the mask.

  13. No, I think it is more a comic fan not reading/being oblivious to one of the classics. The book has gone pretty mainstream in the last few years with the movie and everything.

  14. This guy talks like a magic player.

    blech.

  15. it's probably a 4chan reference.

  16. Well I for one am a purist. I don't want to see any Guy Fawkes, Doctor Manhattan or Invisible Woman costumes in ANY comic shop; they belong in the MOVIES (where you can get away with implied and explicit nudity, for one thing ... though I'm not sure where Guy Fawkes comes in to that.)

  17. Does the increasing misuse of the word 'random' in society bother anyone else?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yes, Knarpulous, it does. Seems people have forgotten that we have the word 'unexpected' for a reason.

  19. You mean it's not just, like, a totally random word, Amale?

  20. Anonymous is legion. They do not forgive, they do not forget.... and apparently they don't read anything other than shitty boards like /b/ either...

  21. Oh and do note that /b/ is the RANDOM board.

And.. I'm breaking the first two rules which they ripped off of Fight Club! SO RANDUM! LULZ! (A corruption of the term lol or laughing out loud) Herpa derpa. Oh shit it's Chris Hansen GTFO!

Meh. I'm just bitter than I'm much older than the majority of kids on /b/ and I remember when /b/ was somewhat readable over half a decade ago. I still remember the day I was totally weirded out to see V for Vendetta, Scientology protests, and anonymous all converge together.

  22. My 9 yr old frequently uses "Random"
I thought it was from a Disney show for tweens
Which makes this guys use a bit creepy

  23. @Ian Thal:

The two aren't mutually exclusive, mate.

  24. Anarchism and Catholic Theocracy aren't mutually exclusive? Or do you mean that Anarchism and the wish to kill Protestants?

    ReplyDelete
  25. /b/ was never good

And he might be surprised to see a Guy Fawkes mask because you know, Anonymous likes to protest and troll Scientologists while wearing the Guy Fawkes masks. It's possible that he's seen people wearing them in the news, but not the movie. And it's also possible he didn't read the comic either.
