The origin story of another soft man...

She bought him FIVE Betty and Veronica comics. Not Archie. Not Jughead. Just Betty and Veronica and their non-threatening adventures for girls.

  1. Well the good news is that by puberty he'll probably have a full on Betty & Veronica fetish. I always wondered where those people came from.

  2. Is there something wrong with adventures for girls?

  3. there is something wrong with mothers (however well intentioned) buying a 'girls adventure' comic for a young boy.

  4. "there is something wrong with mothers (however well intentioned) buying a 'girls adventure' comic for a young boy." Not really. Most differences between men and women are not biologically innate, but social constructs, ingrained into us since we exit the womb. It probably won't the guy a bit of harm. Missing out on Calvin & Hobbes, however, is sad.

  5. No, but having an over-protective mother and leading a hyper sheltered life won't really prepare him for the trials and tribulations that surely await him later in life.

  6. That "social construct" BS was disproved in the 70s.

It's still used be religious whackjobs to claim that gays and transgender people can be "cured."

Simple test: When did you "decide" to be straight?

  7. Just because people used Darwinian selection to claim that poor people deserved to be mashed up into paste doesn't make evolution morally repugnant. You can stick to 100% essentialism or constructionism if you want to totally ignore developmental biology or sociology, but it's a simple fact that (a) non-psychological factors of environment, genetics, and epigenetics have some role in gender expression and (b) that role is at least equalled and possibly dwarfed by the role of social expectations.

If humans were raised by emotionless, cultureless robots our gender differences would be totally intrinsic. On the other hand, we're not, so...
