What you have to remember is that online fora are in the nature of voluntary surveys, which, as any statistician will tell you, attract people who are angry, upset, or otherwise have an axe to grind. People who love a comic, movie, or tv show don't generally race to their computers to rave about how great it is on-line. The people who hate it or were really disappointed by the latest installment do go online to vent their feelings, where they will tend to find a like-minded group of venters, creating an echo chamber.
I never claimed to be interesting, but to avoid the twin conditions of 'contrary' and 'disappointed' I need a regular application of 'something good'. :)
I've said it before, and I'm sure I'll have cause to say it again: There's tons of good stuff out there, and if you don't know that, it's because you're more interested in being contrary/disappointed than in enjoying the good stuff.
Yup, that's why my pull list is whittled right down to almost nothing: because I love reading the crap stuff. If I need educated, educate me: what is there that's good? (Note: obnoxious kids and animals, kid's cartoons, and idiot frat-boy jokes don't count.)
That applies to gamers too!
ReplyDeleteSays contrary and disappointed woman. (Which doesn't make her wrong)
ReplyDeleteIsn't it weird that the people who flame stuff online are the most hardcore fans? This applies to video game, non-genre movie, and TV show fans too.
ReplyDeleteThey're not the most hardcore. They're just the loudest.
DeleteHardcore and silent isn't really a common combination...

DeleteI love the people who shout down people who often have completely reasonable complaints.
ReplyDeleteWHO ASKED YOU, YOU... YOU!
DeleteThat applies to everything.
ReplyDeleteBut everything is disappointing and awful.
