The nerd in me has to point out that Jedi are not given their lightsabers. They build their own custom sabers as a rite of passage and the color of the beam is entirely up to their own preference of kyber crystal.
That said, if they find themselves preferring red, that may raise a few flags.
The only thing worse is to be a character written in to be a member of a mysterious and enigmatic alien race.. only to find out that you are Jar Jar Binks.
In some of the video games, the different between Jedi and Sith is literally that arbitrary.
