  4. I started playing sport recently... it's not really that bad!

Anyway, I'm sure there are places Geeks can hide that Jocks will never venture... although these places are slowly giving way, if you look at Guardians of the Galaxy as an example...

  7. May jocks continue to enter these places so you people can suffer massive stress aneurysms and remove your polluted, worthless genes from our genes pool and fandoms.

    2. No, really. These people are TOXIC. They're self-righteous hypocrites who just want their own faux ranking system so they can lord power over others. They don't care about their interests, they care about salving their bleeding egos, and they make us all look bad in the process, and they're so wrapped up in their own self-absorbed crap that it's impossible to make them realize this. They have to GO, and if 'jocks' invading 'our' interests is what it takes, I welcome it.

    3. Outraged self-appointed guardian of the really real true path of comic book nerds, take it all too seriously in three... two... one...

    4. All outraged hyperbole aside, it is a problem, and one of those ones that just keeps cropping up because people can only change themselves and they don't think they have to change.

  8. the paradox of the nerd who wants jock meatheads to stay away from comic book superheroes... even though the comic book superheroes that the nerd so admires generally bear an uncanny resemblance to the jock meatheads that he despises. how to reconcile this???

  9. Jocks are just sports and fitness nerds.
    I stand by this statement.

A lot of them are pretty cool and having a drink or two with them is a good time.

  10. I've NEVER understood this hatred that comic fans have towards sports fans and that sports fans have towards comic fans, when, really, they're the SAME person.
    • They're both obsessive towards their desired hobby. Sports fans can spout out statistics and team lineups while comic fans can spout out issue numbers and super team lineups.
    • Sports fans enjoy dressing in their favorite team uniforms while comic fans enjoy dressing like their favorite characters.
    • Both are SO consumed by their hobby (sports fans on their sports, comic fans on their comics) that if they do have a significant other, they'll often ignore or take them for granted to a point where they'll lose them.

    3. Do jocks in general still hate comic book fans? I thought that IRL it mostly ended a generation or two ago.

    1. Once upon a time, having few friends to spend spare time with increased the odds of spending spare time learning more facts about math and science instead.

These days, with more and more media properties marketed at the "friendless geek" (no matter how many geeks and others who *do* have friends also enjoy this media), that's no longer true. Instead of spending one's spare time learning more about math and science, one can learn more of the trivia George Lucas or Stan Lee or whomever made up...

(and then there's the not-so-narrowly-focused folks who so spend some spare time on math and science *and* some on friends and exercise *and some on geeky media :D )
...and be as badly prepared for Advanced Statistics as someone who spend all his or her spare time exercising with his or her friends did.

  12. It's possible those ten year old Spiderman fanatics grew up, went outside, joined a sports team or went to the gym once or twice a week, and two decades later when a comic book movie was released they actually enjoyed it? It's possible they've been super hero fans longer than you have. Just because they have friends and don't look like creeps doesn't mean they don't have forty longboxes in the spare room in their house.
