It all depends on what he means by "criticizing." Even my favorite comics, movies, video games, etc. all have flaws. It's only by acknowledging and accepting those flaws that I can appreciate a work in its entirety. That doesn't mean I'm "hating on" the work, as modern vernacular might say. It's just that I can view something through the lens of critical analysis.
Admitting you have a problem is the first step.
