Save that when Episode 1 came out (and again for 2 & 3 IIRC) the earlier movies were re-released in certain theaters. In theory this 15 year old could have seen Empire when he was about one year old in a theater, worst case scenario.
Personally, I don't think a person should declare any film his or her favorite if 20 years (or possibly 30) haven't passed since viewing it. So, yeah, this guy is on the right track.
Are we allowed to watch potential favorite films again in the 20 or 30 year interim, or may favorites only be chosen based on hazy decades-old memories?
Oh, please, no. I'm a different person than I was 20 years ago. If I haven't seen a movie in 20 years, but loved it 20 years ago, it's probably a terrible, vapid movie with few redeeming values.
I'm curious what 1926 movie is your favorite. I checked IMDB and there seems to be several really great movies that came out that year.
The oldest movie I've seen is Metropolis (1927). While not my favorite, definitely a movie worth watching. Try to get Metropolis (Restored) as it's the most complete version of the movie available.
I was going to say that he could have seen the Special Edition in theatres but realized that even that was 16 years ago.

DeleteAny way that you cut it, the fact that the "Special" (as in "retarded") Edition is already 16 years old is just plain too sad to acknowledge.
DeleteI watched the Ewok movies when they first aired on TV. So can I declare Battle for Endor my favorite Star Wars?
ReplyDeleteStar Wars Holiday Special...

ReplyDeleteIf that's the case then I think my favorite movie is My Pet Monster.
DeleteThat's unreasonable
DeleteI have to concur with MrTim on this one. Specifically, "Shut up, you idiot."

DeleteMaybe Empire isn't really his favorite movie either.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite film was made in 1926. :(
ReplyDeleteExactly! I like Gone with the Wind, but I certainly wasn't born in the 30's.

Does it also work with "most hated movies ever" ?
