Sometimes I'll watch schlocky sci-fi or horror with the intent of goofing on it. A lot of people do that. Something tells me this guy is onto something completely different.
Completely different is right, haha. I think this is the guy who overhears people talking about a movie they like, and then he butts in to tell them it's awful.
At least this guy is honest about being a jerk. I have the horrible suspicion that there are a lot more people like him out there in the digital world.
You know what? This would be fine -- except for the words "usually only".
Watch movies for whatever reason you want: for pure fun, for intellectual stimulation, for emotional fulfillment, or yes, even to take potshots at. I watch movies I know will be bad sometimes. Part of that is so I can experience a fuller spectrum of what movie-dom has to offer (good and bad), but yeah, part of it is also so I can have fun talking shit if I want to. Some movies are laughably bad and deserve to be poked fun at for their badness. It's fun to do that sometimes.
Keyword: "sometimes". If that's the majority of what this guy is doing? If the major purpose of his movie-watching life is not to enjoy himself or further his perceptions, but just to publicly shit on both the hard work of filmmakers and the opinions of his peers? Then the tag of the comic is accurate. Dude is just a jerk. Goddamnit, Internet. You encourage this.
Can you imagine if someone did this in all areas of their life? "Well, I have always hated art so that was my major in college. I work in a museum now, because I hate museums. I can't stand video games or Microsoft so I make sure to play on my xbox for at least three hours a night. With my friends who all annoy me. And this beautiful woman was smiling at me the other night. I was super into her so I went home and jerked it instead. The girl in the porn was blonde. I hate that."
What a rewarding and fulfilling life this guy must lead.
