This is true with just about every supervillain eventually. Sure, at first their motives are reasonable and some are outright sympathetic, but eventually after multiple defeats their motives end up changing into "revenge on that dastardly hero who foiled me time and time again!".
I still think Kraven the Hunter had most of a great plan. Defeat Spider-Man, leave him knowing he was soundly defeated and would have been dead if that was what was wanted, and then commit suicide. Replace 'commit suicide' with 'move to the Caribbean,' and I think you have a winner there.
