Ah, this will be the person who's been hurling anonymous abuse at me on Tumblr for not liking the movie.
It's directed by Zack Synder. It MUST be based on a comic book. And she seriously say "Citizen's Kane"? My god.
Actually, the writing credits for Sucker Punch over at IMDB make no reference to a comic book/graphic novel/whatever. I haven't seen Sucker Punch yet, but my first impressions based on reviews and trailers is that it's not much more than a pile of anime/comic nerd wank fantasies. It may not go down well critically, but Zack sure knows his audience.
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/escape-to-the-movies/2962-Sucker-PunchI think this guy said it best when talking about Sucker Punch. Just Sayin' -CoffeeAndTea
I'm willing to bet good money that she's never seen Citizen Kane. Anyone willing to take that bet? Anyone? I'll give three to one odds.
Also, it's highly unlikely that she's even seen Citizen Kane, since she has no idea what she's talking about.
Hahaha- I like that she has a daisy tattoo on the one arm and then a skull/cross-bones on the other. I mean, that's all you really need to know about her... it explains everything.
I don't normally encourage hitting people for being stupid but in this case I might make an exception.
"Suckerpunch" is actually Zack Snyder's pet name for the private parts of a significant other. True story.(Reference: "Rosebud")
Suckerpunch gives you nerds exactly what you want.Anime but with oversexualized girls who look 12.Essentially it appeals to the 4chan crowd and pretends to be "legal" by making up a crazy age for the lead character "baby doll".It's pretty well simulated child pornography for nerd fetishists.
Sucker Punch is actually a really well done and deep movie that unfortunately goes so far over the top with everything that most people aren't able to look past that. But this lady... eesh. "Citizen's Kane" indeed.
@Anonymous What? The girl playing the lead character is that old, and there's no nudity or anything, so how is it child porn of any kind, even simulated? The movie was nonsensical (Snyder should never be allowed to write again) but your complaints are totally off base. If you want something to judge the movie on, do it on the weak script, poor characters, and awful dialogue, not some make believe thing where you think it's simulated child porn for no real reason.
@ Slade I'll take that bet
Good fucking Lord...
To be fair, I assumed it was a comic book-based movie myself at first, before I read reviews and discovered it's an original script. I haven't seen it yet but it does kind of look like the sort of nonsensical meme-fuel comic book you'd find aimed at an adrenaline-soaked young adult male crowd.
I have yet to see it, but it sort of looks too Pan's Labyrinth-y to me. Is that a good or bad thing?
The general consensus I hear is that the only good things about it are Boobs and Special Effects. Through the use of Insane Troll Logic one must infer that this chick is a Lesbian who likes shiny CGI.
MPAA says it's PG13. I doubt the authenticity of the "boobs" claim.
Seriously, it's like The Moby's Dick of Japanese Horror Remake movies. Even if it looks a bit too much like The Pan's Labyrinth of Video-Game Musicals.
Citizen Kane? So it will be a huge flop in the present, and will only ever be appreciated in a few decades? Additionally, Snyder will end up being more like the subject of his film than any character in the movie?
Sucker Punch was awesome. I think there is a double standard because instead of muscular men kicking ass, it was pussycat dolls.
Well if you break citizen kane down that way (takes a while to be apprciated. Dir. is focus of film) then I guess sucker punch -is- the citizen kane for geeks.Well then.
@ Sorceror: When I said "Boobs", I meant "Sex Appeal". "Fan Service". Not "Nudity".
This strip is the Citizen Cane of Our Valued Customers.
Sucker Punch is more like An Occurance At Owl Creek Bridge meets the exploitation factor of a Russ Meyer flick.
Anonymous@12:02 Any regular viewer of Moviebob would know that he's (more than) a bit of a pervert, and it's no surprise that he lapped up Sucker Punch (that, and he's also got an enormous hard-on for Zack Snyder). His attempt to pass off blatant objectification and pandering as female empowerment was feeble to say the least. I wager there's not gonna be a Mrs. Moviebob for a long, long time.
Oh, and if you want more sophistry from Moviebob on the subject of female empowerment, just watch his video on Bond girls.
