Wether the first Tron movie was bad or not is a matter of opinion. True it wasn't great, but while there were at least four games based on it at the time, two in the arcade, none of them were all about lightcycles. The Tron arcade game featured 4 sections, only one of which was lightcycles, Tron: Deadly Discs (a game I was addicted to) was all about disc fighting. The other two were minor console titles that didn't feature lightcycles at all.
Lightcycles tend to be what people promote because they are instantly recognizable and they are thus thus what people see a lot. Also it was the most action packed part of the film, so it get's lots of play. Not many people these days would recognize a Recognizer. The game Tron 2.0 was mostly a first person shooter but with some annoying unskippable lightcycle sections that ground the otherwise good game to a halt.
@Jeff M. Thomas, what about freeware fan-made Lightcycle games, like Armagetron? I'm guessing that's more like "the game" that Sorceror referred to; he may not have even realized there were official games(I only knew of the arcade game, Deadly Discs, 2.0, and the upcoming Evolution, and I consider myself a giant Tron nerd, too).
Jeff: Also, Bloodrayne had nothing to do with the movie either. And Doom, holy crap! Where the freak was Dwayne Johnson in that game? Seriously, could they have f***ed up any worse than that?
He probably thinks Pierce Brosnan is the best or only James Bond too...sigh
ReplyDeletedo you bother to correct these people?
ReplyDeleteI weep for the future…
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, the GoldenEye video game did suck.
ReplyDeleteI think the kid thought the movie was based on the game.
DeleteMaybe there's some bizzaro version of Goldeneye I'm not familiar with, but here on planet Earth, Goldeneye revolutionized console shooters.
ReplyDeleteWhat Roto 13 said.
ReplyDeleteOkay, some of the commenters here seems to have missed the point. The customer is saying he thinks the movie is a terrible adaptation of the game.
ReplyDeleteBoth the movie and game are good but the movie obviously came first.
Do you ever just try to stare at these people with an intensity that makes them realize the stupidity of what they just said?
ReplyDeleteHe done flipped the script!
ReplyDeleteI dunno about this. Tron was pretty terrible: the Lightcycles only featured in one tiny part of the movie, but that's all the game is about!
ReplyDeleteThere need to be more movies about Goldeneye. Goldeneye is my favorite superhero ever!
ReplyDeleteI'm very curious what you could possibly say in response to this idiocracy. Please enlighten us!

Who's a giant Tron nerd? That's right, I am!
